I'm gonna start tuning as soon as my 550's arrive in the mail this week. But i'm trying to decide what boost to tune to.. I've got a s16g supra sidemount, full i/c piping, 255lph, and 550's with an AFC, Egt guage and pocketlogger. I'm currently running 17psi and I was thinking of tuning to a bit over 20 on 93octane. Thoughts?

Jon

Start tuning it at 16 psi, much more then that for base pulls is not recommended. Tune you're way to the propper boost level for your given car and setup. You cant just say RUN 20 psi or RUN 18 psi. Every car is setup different. The condition of your motor supporting mods, outside temps and elevation will determine how much safe boost you can run on pump with your setup.

He is almost guaranteed to get more timing advance the lower he sets the boost, because the timing maps are indexed by airflow. Lots of timing at 10 psi does not equal more power.

He should set the boost to the point where he has maximum timing advance without any knock. That will probably be around 18 psi.

Hey guys, me again. Anyways, just curious, i will be getting my Apex'i Super AFC and AVC-R controls (Sweet !) here in a week or so, just curious, not being a daily driver, what is a good, safe (for the motor) boost pressure to keep the car at constantly (peak i mean)? thanks.

14 psi should be fine. I'm running a little lean at 16 psi with the stock turbo (atleast that's what my o2 sensor says (.90 volts 5,500 rpms)).

I have ran about 17 for awhile but now i keep it at 15.5 psi. The t25 sucks anyways and it won't get too hot even at 17psi. I just keep a close eye on my egt when its that high. I only use 17psi when i go racing but i also put some octane booster in it to make it safer.

true, but you have to remember such things at possible "boost spike" and or "creep"...even if i don't max out with boost everytime or shift, i still want to know where to set it at so that at all times i am at a safe level that won't hurt either the turbo, motor, or manifolds.

the only thing your going to really hurt when you crank up the boost past 16psi on the t25 is the turbo itself. That thing is so damn small at higher boost levels all it does is blow hot air. I have never heard of anybody hurting there motor with the t25. I might be wrong but that thing won't kill anything. But you wanna watch out for those hot egt's. At 17psi i couldn't get the egt to hit 16000 unless i would top out my car. Pulling to the top of third didn't even do it.

Ok I have a 96 GSX and its at the shop getting the follorwing installed:

SAFC2
Profec B Spec II
Evo Manifold
Evo O2 Housing
Evo III 16G Turbo
Walbro 255lph
Guages

And my car already has the following on it:

Apex N1 Catback
HRC Downpipe
HRC High Flow Cat
Ingen Intake
Greddy Intercooler Piping
HKS SSQ BOV

My question is what is my safe zone for boosting levels? I don't want to risk any damages to my engine, I just replaced the main bearings on it also. Im not sure where my limits are with stock injectors and no real engine work is. My car will be dyno tuned by professionals when they are done though.

Thanks,

From what I've searched, I think around 17 to 18 psi max. Really depends on the tuning quality I guess. Just my thoughts, don't have any experience yet ( factory boost blowz )

all depends on your fuel, basicaly what 1le said..you can only run as much as your fuel system will allow you..but then again thats not saying if you have 750's,255hp,that you can run 45 psi..just go on tuning..egt's,if you have the gauge(saying this if you have no other way to tune..although you can get colder readings under detonation which wouldnt allow you to catch knock before anything bad happened..
tune by timing advance basicaly..if you cant then dont run rediculous amounts of boost for prolonged periods of times during runs..and running 94 octane,no matter how much itll cost you isnt a bad idea either..:) hope this helps..

Well I will be running 93 octane, I can get 94 octane here but its an extra $.30/gal over 93 i think. I do have an egt and a SAFC II so those are what I wil be using to tune until I get my dsmlink.

Yeah injectors and FPR are deffinately next on the list to get upgraded, I dont plan on boosting high right now though because I just got my main bearning replaced also so I am using the winter time as a break in period and spring time I will have the FPR and injectors to go on. Just ran out of money before I could get those.

Log it! My timing sucks ass with stock injectors. The timing is highest at 15-16psi. I have practically the same setup. evo3 16g and all the minor odds and ends...no front mount or injectors yet. My timing never really gets higher than 11-12 degrees which is sort of on the crap side.

Ok I added on injectors and a fuel pressure regulatore on and tuned it, I was able to get my boost to average up at about 26psi is where it peaks. 232hp at the wheels with it also. Deffinately feels like a different car now. Anyways, what would you guys suggest to squeeze out a little more power so I can hit like 250hp at the wheels (I cant afford a FMIC just yet but i got a new job so it looks like spring time ill get one).

Thanks,

What do you mean it peaks there. You mean it creeps there real briefly and then falls down alot I hope. Dude, you can't run 26 PSI on pump gas:cry:
