I was wondering if there was anywhere that you can get tuning maps for the DSMlink. I want to tune my car, but I don't have the time or knowledge to tune it by hand and its not worth taking to a professional for a tune. I was wondering if these exist or if there is a way to get a basic tune that just needs tweaked.

If everything is stock theres not much you need to to do, ecm link sends you it with a base tune. thought you can go through these videos on their site and do a simple tune yourself the videos are very self explanatory.

ECMTuning, Inc.

You're going to have to do some reading eventually If you want to tune it yourself.

What I ment by not worth it is I have plans to do more engine work to it, so paying a bunch of money to get a tune that would only be good for a little while doesn't make much sense to me.

Other than some direct access maps that are a little less conservative than stock on timing and AFR, there aren't any "custom maps". ECMLink uses the stock ECU, so it's almost a plug-n-play type system. You just need to recalibrate it for your airflow and fuel system, which has to be done on a per-car basis since every setup is different.

Find the time, and gain the knowledge. If you plan on keeping it for a while or doing anything at all with it performance wise, it is well worth it. Nothing is more satisfying and cost-effective than doing it yourself, and it's actually quite easy if you have a little patience. ;)

Are you running it in speed density or with a MAF. If oyu are using a MAF, a professional tune will be pretty effective for most mods down the road as long as oyu don't change your injectors or fuel pressure form their current setup.

I wouldnt install it and mess with it until you get any supporting mods you want to install.if you knew the link system already then id say otherwise.

YES the Op should Install it, that would be a great Idea if the op has it.

Mess with it (aside from the basic loading some of some more Conservative maps as said) Not without a complete understanding of what your doing and some in depth reading at least if it's not something familiar with...

In the end It's up to you OP if you up for feeling your comfortable in putting your time and/or money forward to ensure the money you spend on a build goes to work like you want it...

There are no pre-made custom tunes. every project is different and behaves differently. Cars with similar mods could be used to get an idea where to start but I don't suggest loading someone's race tune for your car.

OK thanks for all of the input. I do not have it right now but I am planning on getting it this summer, when I can afford it.

Once you gain some familiarity with ECMLink V3, and you are sure your engine is running great, the Evo8 Modified map is a nice place to start tuning, much better than stock 2g map. You can download the evo8 maps from ecmtuning:

evo8v3settings [ECMTuning - wiki]

Note: The Ralliart map is not for 93 oct cars, think race gas / e85 / or serious meth injection

Once you gain some familiarity with V3 ECMLink,

Fixed :)

Sorry but Ecmlink is leaps and bounds ahead of and thing they made before and deserves a new name as it is really a completely new and better product then Dsmlink Was...

I disagree. I recommend ECMLink and these two books as the first mods for anyone new to DSMs, once all maintenance has been done.

Designing and Tuning High-Performance Fuel Injection Systems
Engine Management: Advanced Tuning

i've got both of those right in front of me :D half way through advanced engine management:sneaky:

its good shit so i +2 to that

I even think DSMlink is good on a stock car with a little higher boost, its kinda nice knowing whats going on with you car, i had installed ECMlink before i dropped my new engine in and i got to see all the interesting things that were happening with my 7 bolt 150k mile engine haha.

To answer op's question, as i have ALSO learned ;) there is no magic tuning solution or magic button to get your car running excellent. Just learn link and you'll be happy with it. I cant tell you enough how satisfying it is to take your car from running like shit and bucking to hitting smooth pulls; but as everyone here knows i'm still dealing with timing issues ;) heh

Just read all you can on ECM tuning site, study the videos, and with a little
bit of messing around you will grasp it. Plus if you have Amy questions there is more than enough extremely informative guys (Corey"gofer", Brian"snowboarder", glen, Calan, and a lot of others) that can help you out, all you gotta do is post logs. Start out simple, when you get the hang of it try out the evo8 maps and tweak them to how your car likes. Patience and practice my friend.

Great info in here thanks for posting those links Calan.

OP - FWIW I ran "DSMLink" on my old setup. T-25, front mount, FPR, 255 pump, intake, bov, 3" full back. Love it! I'm considering upgrading to ECMLink V3 as I now have about twice the power I did before.

whats the difference between the ECMlink and the DSMlink, when I look on websites to find prices its the same thing.

ok Thanks for the help does the ECMtuning site or anywhere have example tunes for different set ups to help give people an idea of what to do?

Technically, nothing (other than the new features)....DSMLink was renamed to ECMLink with version 3.

But those new features in version 3 added a LOT of new functionality. :)

Come on... Calan

From the Guys at Ecmtuning

ECMLink is the result of nearly 3 years of work. We took an already perfectly good package and made it better. A LOT better. Everything was redesigned, rebuilt, and recoded to roll in everything we've learned from our first 6 years of business. V3 isn't really an upgrade as much as it is a completely new product! The full feature list just isn't practical in this small space.

IMHO they are not even in the same ballpark...

I never really cared all the much for DSMlink I'd run a number of other things before it or upgrade it to v3

But ECMlink completely changed my opinion... .
