maf translator on rebuilt motor

so my buddy just gave me his 91 talon tsi-awd. we've completely rebuilt the motor, 16g turbo, aftermarket intercooler, 850cc injectors, motor is built (not sure off the top of my head all the specs).

the car has a maf translator on it, was on there when he bought the car 2 and a half years ago. my biggest concern on it is, with this maf translator can i truely tune the car good enough to run smoothly while i work on breaking in the motor or should i just bite the bullet and go out and buy a stock maf to install?

i'm willing to try and learn how to tune the translator and have been doing research for the last 3 days, but i'm tired of reading and need help. so please help me out.

I'd throw the stock injectors back in there until you get something better. Dsmlink is about the only way to go with injectors that big. Even if you get the a/f ratio decent with the maft or an safc you are going to have very agressive timing problems.

I dont know how to say this easier but my maf translator was one of the reasons I stopped driving my dsm. It just never got the car to work right. I did all the tricks and tips people told me to do and the car would just barely idle smooth let alone run right.

TEll him to ditch it and just go with dsmlink. IT will make both your lives so much easier.
My motor is done being built and dropped in. But I refuse to start it until I get my dsmlink.
Just my opinion.

i already have dsmlink, he got that LONG before he gave me the car. i'm gonna go out here in a lil bit and mess with the maf-t, adjust the clutch, and she should be driveable.
