I posted about two weeks ago about low boost and loud spool and i got some ideas and i took them to heart and tried them:

wastegate----replaced
Boost leak testing------done found a few minor ones and patched em.....
compressor housing leak-----removed turbo and rtv coppered the bastard

Im out of ideas, im about to check the plugs maybe that has to do with low boost.

very very minimal shaft play side to side no in out, the blades didnt look bent....*im not an expert* over all the turbo seems fairly solid, i heard that "jumped timing" can cause some issues similar but seeing as i can hear the turbo very loud i dont think its that ill try to get some pics up later tonight

still tryin to figure it out.... i just tightened down all my exhaust manifold bolts to double check that, havnt run it yet since i rtvd a line that i suspect to be leaking a little.

Im in denver, this is my first turbo car (came from a NA 300zx) so i dont know of any shops other than MAC autosport which i already called and theyre just trying to sell me a new turbo without even looking at it. does anyone have any ideas for DSM shops in this area?

I have a 1g talon tsi 6bolt

I am out of ideas regarding my low boost loud spool problem...... i have checked the shaft for play in out and side to side, it checked out to be normal i have swapped out the wastegate thinking it was stuck open. i have sealed up the turbo thinking it was a compressor housing leak. i have replaced my exhaust manifold due to a few cracks. i have tried putting stock BCS back on and tried a better MBC. i have sealed up the j pipe leak unveiled by the BLT. anyone have any ideas at all??? my symptoms are as follows

Loud spool
Hitting 5 lbs in 2nd-5th at 4Kish
Hitting 3-4lbs in 1st at 4500
I feel like i have no low rpm power whatsoever
My vacuum sits at 12-14 at idle and 16-18 while cruising without me being on throttle.

:banghead::confused:

im starting to wonder if maybe cat is clogged or the area around the wastegate flapper on the hotside is cracked, any easy ways to check without removing turbo again?

Did you fix ALL of your boost leaks first? Using a spray bottle of soap and water, start at the TB elbow and check the throttle body, injector seals and IM gasket and all vaccum lines. Next, move it to the IC and check the IC for leaks and be sure your BOV isn't leaking under pressure. Lastly attact the tester at the compressor inlet and test the whole system. You should be able to pressurize to at least 20psi and have it hold for at least a min for a good sealing engine. Is your PVC bad? Blowing your dipstick out of the tube, excessive air coming out of the oil cap during the boost leak test?

If you have no leaks and a good PVC, do a compression test to rule out either valves not fully seating or having bad valve seals.

On stock cams, those vac. numbers are bad.

As far as i have noticed the PVC is fine because the dipstick is not flying out and we didnt notice any excessive air from oil cap. another thing i may add unsure if this is relevant but about 2 days before this all started happening my stock bov started making little fairly quiet whooshing noises at low boost (1-4lbs) we did crush it a tiny bit to make sure it was staying tight but that didnt fix it either.

assuming your engine and turbo are in good condition, and your timing and everything else is set correctly, the ONLY THING it can be is a leak.

Try using a different BOV, check every possible location boost could leak from.

How much pressure did you apply during your BLT? I would go to 20psi.

my buddy had the same problem with his 99 gsx....After checking everything you have done and going nuts...I told him to hook the wg actuator straight to the boost source-eliminating the boost controller. When he did he found that the vacuum line had a giant slit in it that couldn't be seen from above. He replaced the vacuum line and problem solved...hopefully you will be as lucky

Mitsumurdok-----yeah i wish i was that lucky trust me that was the first thing i tried. i was thinking it was just that little vacuum line but it wasnt, and seeing as all my hoses look fairly new and i have examined damn near all of them im pretty sure its not a simple hose leak.

Did you perform a boost leak test as I described?

I must say thanks LiQUiDx and everyone you are very helpful and as for the BLT we have done a few basic ones about two weeks ago when this first started, we put the tester thing over the turbo inlet and popped it up to 20psi, it leaked out fairly steadily over a course of 20-30 seconds, the only leak we seemed to find at that time was the J-pipe gasket. so we sealed it up thinkin that was the end but low an behold it wasnt! so this time around we are going to be testing every section where there is a hose clamp starting at the J-pipe hose. if it leaks after compressor then we will move up another notch to the upper intercooler hose if it stops there then i would assume its the IC if not then further testing will resume. Another question i have is how can i test for exhaust side leaks, im afraid of sea foaming the engine due to its 143k miles and unknown condition seeing as i traded my 300z for it in january. (everything looks oddly clean for the mileage, the z wasnt this clean)

you all have probably heard of my loud spool low boost problem accompanied by burning of oil. I have decided to pick up a freshly rebuilt 14b off of a neighbor in hopes of solving my boost/burn problem. It seems to be a steal at such a low price!:rocks::DLOL:hellyeah::thumb::applause:

and i am hoping this finally solves my problem!

I had posted several times in the past regarding LOW BOOST LOUD SPOOL *the actual thread name read for symptoms* and i finally got it figured out and sorted out! i had two things go wrong simultaneously my turbine wheel on the intake side was chewn to hell and my turbine housing was cracked straight through the whole thing.

i replaced the wheel *absolutely no shaftplay* and replaced the housing with my first mod a 7cm ported turbine housing! now she runs like a dream hitting 14-15lbs of boost! thanks for all your help!:hellyeah:

The problem was resolved, my wheel on the intake side of the turbo was all chewed up and beaten to hell and my hotside was cracked by the wastegate flapper. so anyone else having these symptoms check hotside and the wheel

Just a heads up, when you solve a problem you don't start a new thread. You should mark your old thread as resolved. That way if someone else is searching for your same problem they can see how you fixed it. Also the guys who replied to you and were helping you out can see that they did indeed help you solve your problem. To do that while in the thread use "thread tools" to mark the thread as solved. Glad you got your problem worked out! Its always rewarding!

So did the 14b solve the loud spool low boost problem you where having? I havent seen a your threads about this for a while:sneaky:

no it didnt solve anything because his blades were shot and sucked all the pieces up and destroyed his rings...so now he needs those and a new turbo atleast

sadness on the blown turbo... my younger brother is having this issue... you can hear the turbo spooling like crazy... but he isn't building any pressure. At least now I have some ideas on tracking this thing down. His hot side on the turbo did have a few nicks in the wheel, but it didn't look like anything super serious.
