Second DSM, first one that isn't stock.
FWD 92. Small 16g, Dijon 3inch intake. K&N filter, FMIC, 3 inch IC piping, MAFT, Greddy type RS.
It seems to have a loud but seemingly low pitched spool.. Like a SHH sound. It could be the K&N. Nonetheless, it seems to spin freely by hand and there is no shaft play.
And the other thing, which I thought could also be the turbo.. Under boost there's a burning oil smell, sometimes worse than other times.. And specks of oil on the Valve cover.. But I see not where it is coming from. And it isn't coming out of the BOV, which I though first. I see no leaks anywhere..
And Seeing that the turbo spins nicely by hand and without play, that the journal bearings might not be headed out.. but there is still the issue of the burning oil which is can't be coming from nowhere.

I wiped off the VC this morning and will look harder when I get home to see if there is place where that specks of oil are coming from.
And ideas?

Dipstick popped out on me once in this car, once in my AWD, that's not the issue.
The catch can is vented, and the vent hose runs down in front of the transaxle. I could see it spurting out onto the downpipe or something under high pressure.. But still nothing explains the specks of oil that end up on the VC everytime I fill up..

I know what blowby is, and I understand the PCV valve.. but there is a hose connected to the PSV off the upper left corner of the VC and off of the left side. The oil catch vent hose is routed down infront of the transaxle.. I don't see how it could spurt oil onto the VC.
And let's say you're right, would that make you think I have excess blowby? There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of air coming out of the fill cap or dipstick port when they're open at idle.

You said in your OP...

Your car isn't "under boost" at idle so you popping the oil dipstick out while the engine idling isn't going to prove much. You can empty your catch can and then go for a drive going into boost a few times, see if you smell oil again. If you smell it then pull the catch can off and see if theres any oil in there or not. Does you VC have the baffles in it?
