I have a strange question.
I am still new to my DSM and this is my first turbo car.

Yesterday I was driving home and I normally drive my stick nice and easy, I decided to push it a little and was shifting through the gears around 4k to 5k at shift.
I shifted into 5th and the RPMs went up a little then down and started climbing again.

What I am wondering is there was a horrible burnt smell that started right when that happened, there was no mis-shift I could tell, it didn't grind, it slid right in but I had a really bad burnt smell and I don't know what it was.
I checked the engine when i got home and everything looked fine I didn't see or notice any problems.
the car drove fine just a bad smell. I left it sit and this morning I had no problems, no smell or anything.

any ideas?

I've spent a whole bunch of time trying to figure out just what "that smell" was! Everytime I smell burning oil, antifreeze, brakes, etc. I check my car! It turns out MOST of the time that it is not even my car!

There are many differnt types of "burnt" smells so figuring out which one you mean would be next to impossible without more details. I suggest this: drive around where there is no one else around. Windows UP, Windows Down, vent on, vent off, etc. If you still smell it, try to figure out what you are smelling and where it is coming from. Then maybe we can help you a little more.

Good Luck!

I was thinking it might have been the clutch because of the RPM change but wasnt sure.
I guess I'll try to test and find out where it is comming from..

Thanks

burning clutch smells horrible. I mean horrible! same as over heated breaks.

if that would be the case then you should be ok. are you still running a stock clutch? other mods?

thats clutch. you didnt de-press it all the way and your clutch grabbed half-way through the shift. its not used to doing that so it could of given off your smell.

That makes sense, I did shift it fast when it happened.
I have a ACT 2100 I beleive (bought the car with it on there)

I assume doing it once wont really hurt the clutch too much.

Only other mods I have until I can save some more money is a RRE Upper IC piping.

It just sounds like you burnt the clutch a little bit. Its ok we all do it.. :D In fact i just blew my clutch on my way to work this morning. THat sucks majorly!
