I just noticed recently that when i really got on it i would notice a burning plastic smell. I didn't smell like clutch or brakes. I just got a megan racing downpipe on a week ago but i haven't noticed this smell until today. Nothing sounds odd or out of the ordinary. My clutch doesn't slip sinc eit's almost brand new. It's not a very strong smell at all but i notice it. It's coming from the drivers side, i know that for sure. Somewhere upfront near the engine but i can't pinpoint it. But it really is very faint and not overpowering, but it was enough for me to notice. It only seems to do it when i really got on it.

This is totally off the wall maybe but have you checked for anything rubbin against the timing cover? Sounds dumb but it IS plastic and it IS on the driver's side.

That was the first thing i checked and i noticed that nothingwas rubbing. To answer the second question i DO have a heat shield on my exhaust manifold.

Ok good. I thought maybe you didn't have a heat shield and your ac fan blades were melting.

Ok i found out that a walmart bag was wrapped around my new downpipe. Hmmm, damn lowered car...

I hate walmart. At least it wasn't anything major.

It's funny b/c i did notice the other day that i ran over a bag right infront of walmart and it never came out the other side. It completely wrapped itself around the flex setion of my downpipe. There are still plastic beads molded to my flex section. Hopefully it will all burn off evetually. :thumb:

Dont mean to jack the thread, but didnt feel I should make a whole new one for my question. Anyway, I noticed mine has been rubbing a little, and so I took it off. Why do so many people insist on having it on? Should I really have it on there? Thanks.

There's an offchance that a rock or pebble might get caught in there causing damage to a gear or maybe even having your belt jump a tooth if it's bad enough.
