loud turbo whistle and smoking when spooling

i have a 95 eagle talon tsi and when i hit the gas and the turbo starts to spool up it sounds like a really bad whistle and its loud and also when the turbo spools up it throws smoke out the back what could cause this or is the turbo bad?

You may want to go see for yourself. Take off the intake pipe to the compressor housing for inspection. Look to see damage to the compressor wheel and check for play (in/out, up/down). I would stay out of boost if I were you.

I'd say bad turbo , wouldn't hurt to take a peep at the turbo compressor wheel

High pitched whistles often come from compressors contacting the housing.

You have the bov recirculation going on or capped off and bov to atmosphere that would be the problem right there.

just checked the compressor wheel and it moves up and pretty easily with one finger couldnt test in and out but by the way it moves up in down so easly its probably bad

yeah my friend just hooked me up with a used turbo from a eclipse that broke the timing belt for $75 so im happy now just got to pick it up but im going to have my old one rebuilt so it will be ready when time comes and thank you for your help.

Keep in mind if your turbo was the OE t25 Garret turbo, you will need to purchase an install kit if the replacement turbo is a 14b/16g style. The VFAQ has a write-up on the swap if you need it.

ok last question from 95 to 98 are they only garrett t25 or are they have diffrent ones such a newbie question

All 95-99 DSMs have the Garret T-25 turbo. 1g had the 13g and 14b turbo as OE.

ok got a used turbo but the code on the turbo is garrett TR0760 is that the T25?
