I am currently looking for a place to get a new or rebuilt ECU. I have recently tried Motoguys Garage, Purchased one from them on August 11th and still have not received the ECU or have been able to get a hold of them.

Does anyone have any ideas of a good company/person to go through? I am looking at finding one at a decent price, not looking at going to a dealer to pay well over a grand for one.

I have an automatic 92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD.

go to your local junkyard
I have bought a few from there and tested them and they have been in good condition

whats the deal with your ecu? you can ship it to steve and he can hook you up. he repairs them and replaces parts if need be, then tests them out, so you know you are getting a good product. if the guys on my ship cant fix my board, im going to let him fix it. i am tight on money and letting my electronics technicians try it for free first.

I have been having starting issues, idle surging, engine running rough at times, and randomly throwing codes. So I did all the testing for the codes and had them cleared at one time when they were always on and then slowly they starting coming back randomly. I then proceeded to open up the ECU and I noticed that I had some leaking capacitors so I got the replacement capacitors, replaced them, and while doing so noticed that it ate away some of the components and some traces.

Who is Steve and what do I need to do to contact him? Also how much does he usually charge to rebuild them.

Never mind I did some digging and found out who your talking about. Thanks for the information.

I no longer need an ECU, I went to the salvage yard today and I was lucky enough to come across my exact same car there, same color and everything. I was thinking to myself thats either a good sign or a bad sign. Purchased the ECU for $20 and got home, opened it up and there was no leaky caps or any signs of damage. After that I hooked it up to my car and drove it around. So far there was no codes being thrown and the engine and everything else was running a lot better.

I am hoping that this ends my problems so I will be keeping my fingers crossed as I drive it around some more for testing.

I've been down that road too. It wasnt until i put in for a refund did they get in touch with me. And after i finally received it from them all communication was dropped and i haven't been able to get my core refund.

Ordered the replacement capacitors should have them next week to change them out.

Make sure you have a temp controlled soldering iron so you don't burn any traces desoldering the caps.

Make sure the copper is clean when you solder in the new ones and that the solder flows to both side of the board.

Thanks for the tip Steve, I used to be an Electronics Technician for 2 yrs so I have quite a bit of experience with soldering.

I can never be sure. I get lots of ECUs from people who think they know how to solder, sadly damaged because they used a cheap soldering iron and over heated the pads. Or with cold solder joints because they didn't clean the conformal coating and tried to solder to a dirty board.

Well I finally got an email from paypal and they are going to give me my money back from Motoguys Garage!
