I currently have a 1G crushed BOV on my setup. This is my first turbo, and the car was purchased like that so I'm quite new to blow off valves. Now, I do know that the 1G crushed is better than it being stock. I have the 16G turbo but I would like to upgrade the BOV to an HKS SSQV3. I'm amazed by the sound they create and my crushed 1G just doesn't cut it. Now my concern is, will the HKS affect my engine or turbos performance in any way? Or am I basically paying for the sound? Any replies will be greatly appreciated since I'm trying to learn and get deeper into DSM's.

as long as your recirculate it with our cars (unless your running SD or blow through) a bov is a bov, some are better than others as in how much boost they can hold before they start leaking and such but essentially they're jobs are all the same.

Replacing a BOV just for the sound is dumb, IMO. However, unless you are running over 30 PSI than you aren't going to get a "better performing" effect out of an aftermarket one. If you are going to spend that kind of money, there are other options I would consider, like the Synapse Synchronic piston style BOV.

What you want is a BOV that doesn't leak in the end of it. Sound doesn't give you performance, only attention, so as long as it seals for the boost level you need, it's good. SSQV is loud, you might like it, but it will bring attention; the kind you don't want. I personally like the 1g sound, a nice woosh. Skylines use it for a reason ;) http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/hangout/408017-1g-bov-comes-stock-nissan-gtr.html

First off, thanks for all the replies! They really help! and well, currently I have the 1G crushed but it looks like it was welded on there and then sealed with some silicone from where it connects to the intake(I'll try and see if I can get a pic) , according to the previous owner and the turbo gauge, I can boost as high as 28psi with that 16G turbo,(although I don't plan too LOL) so if I'm boosting 20-23 on a daily basis, you guys think it will give out?

Nope, won't give out. The reason it's crushed is to stiffen the spring (by compressing it) so as to give more resistance to the pressure making it better for high boost applications. The downside is that it becomes harder to open at lower boost because of stiffness which can cause compressor surge.

Considering the 1g BOV is originally good for 18-20 psi without leaking I'd think with a crushed one you should be able to do 23psi. It also depends on how deep it's crushed (the deeper it's crushed, the more resistance it offers to boost before it opens).
