Guys, yes I am posting in the newbie forums because I had gotten out of the DSM world. Just recently, I purchased a 95 GST, my first turbo eclipse, for $600. When the person I bought it from said it had lifter tick I thought "that's an easy fix".

So anyways, I replaced all lifters (after priming with oil) and gave a fresh oil change using 10w-30, engine restore, and a K&N filter. When starting back up, the tick is still there. I let it warm up in hopes of the oil cycling to rid the tick, which it didn't. I revved up to 3k then all of a sudden there was what seemed to be a grinding like sound then the engine shut off. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place now. Can anyone seem to guide me in the right direction as to what the chances the actual problem is? Thank you for your time!

I checked #1 and the marks on the cam gears and they're lined up. At the present moment, I don't have the things necessary to lower the motor and check the marks on the other timing pulleys.

Tick and then knock and grinding and then engine stops! Thats a whole load of things that it could be, my internet best guess is the bottom end seized up from crank bearings going,

Can you spin the motor over by hand and checked the oio to see if there is any sign of bearings in the oil?
Lifter tick is very noticable up top.

Another thought could be a bad cam journal/camshaft.

But what you got to do is just take it apart bit by bit and do the major checks, thats the only way to really find out whats happened as we can only guess on here and give ideas on what we think it is but might be chasing nothing for the wrong reasons,

I can turn it by hand, however, it's easy at one point turning by hand then it's hard turning by hand.

Excuse my ignorance, but I don't know if that's good or bad? I'm slowly trying to learn.

Remove the spark plugs. You're probably feeling compression

Balance shaft bearing or crankshaft thrust bearing, the ticking could be your timing plate hitting the crankshaft sensor.

My motor does the same thing. Hard at one point then super easy almost like it can turn by itself. My compression is 120 across the board cold and dry. No visible smoke and it runs strong.

Did you bleed the lifters before installing them?

Maybe loose rocker? Pull the valve cover and check your work.

it may be small but a lot of people don't fill there oil filters with oil when changing for a new oil filter. This will cause air to be pushed from the oil filter and causes ticks! Mine had a tick but always went away as it warmed up, but this last oil change I did put oil in the new filter and it started with no ticks at least that was the cause of my ticks. I also have all new cams, lifters, springs, and valves, and retainers

You might have a bent valve if the timing is off, an easy way to check is to remove the valve cover and shake each cam bearing cap, if you find any movement you bent a valve directly under the loose cap, just a lil trick I learned

Just a thought. I would definitely check your oil pump.
Drain a little oil from the pan for shavings. Just thought I'd throw some other ideas out there.
