Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Here is my XSPOWER 30"X12"X4".

I have the inlet and outlet on top. It really shortens the piping alot.
Does your IC pipe get hella hot when running that close to the manifold/turbo?

Question, doesn't the 2g ECU pull 1 degree of timing for every 2*F over 206*F?

Yes, it will pull 1 degree of timing over 206* and I believe 2 degrees over 220* but I don't hit 206* when I'm driving, only idling in traffic. When I go to the track I have DSMLink run my fans all the time to keep temps under 200* when I'm idling waiting in line. Once I'm running, coolant temps barely go over 203* keeping me on the right timing map. Your timing also gets pulled if your intake temps exceed 84*.

Yes but what are your average day temps there spring-fall? I noticed you are in Michigan, so I doubt you are in the high 70s -mid 90s for most of the year, with mid days being over 100 in the summer.

local temps can play a HUGE role in whether x-brand FMIC works well with no overheating for your car.

Our mid-summer temps can easily reach mid 90s. Since my headgasket problem, I have never gone over 210*. Even when I'm racing, this is with over 100* track temps with no wind coming over the barriers. I have also done several pulls on a dyno with about 80* ambient temps with just a puny fan blowing over the radiator/FMIC.

Local temps can play a role, but keep in mind these cars were designed to run in various temperature ranges. Once your car is moving, ambient temperatures have less of an affect on your cooling system as rushing 55mph air will extract the heat from your radiator anyways. Adding a front mount shouldn't hinder your stock cooling system unless there is a weakness somewhere else. I didn't notice any difference in coolant temperature behavior when I installed my FMIC, and I have done a GReddy core and an SBR race core on friend's cars with the same results.

I log just about the same coolant behavior weather its 90* or 20* outside when I am idling in traffic.

I live in FL which gets much hotter than Michigan. I had a 25x10x3 fmic and my coolant temps have never gone past 190F lowest i see is 178F. Of course i also have dsmlink and keep my radiator fan running all the time(aftermarket). Since putting on the new 30x12x3 fmic ive have no change in coolant temps whatsoever but once spring and summer rolls around we'll see how the temps stay. Usually for spring and summer i switch to water watter and distilled water to keep the temps down even more once it gets colder here <80F i switch back to regular coolant not like it need to but i just feel like it.

Is that just the same intercooler, just upside-down? Where did you get the piping for it? (That's actually a really good idea:thumb: )

P.S. Has anyone tried This one? The price there is just for piping but I emailed the guy and he says the full kit is $299 shipped and it comes with a 24" X 12" X 3" intercooler.

I would love to by a core by itsself and then just make the pipes but I'm scared once I get in there to get the piping done I'll have screwed something up and have leaks galore or just not be able to get it to work either way.. Unless someone could tell us exactly how long this pipe needs to be and yadda yadda along with every pipe that we would need to get the piping to work on a 2g.

I know seriously, All I'm really need to finish my project is a fmic so I can get it strapped on to the dyno and get it tuned :( If someone wants to sell me theres.... ;) :D

Looks like I got mine just in time. :D They are going for nearly double what I paid which sucks. If you guys just communicated a little more there are about 2-3 kits at a time on there. One take one, the other bid on the other so you guys arn't outbidding eachother. On a side note, this is a kick ass kit and is probably the best bang for the buck I've got on my GSX so far. They sell these for $650 on there website BTW.

I'll post up pics tonight when I get off work before I put it on the car so you guys can check out the welds, piping, ect.

Here is a couple pics of the 2g XS/POWAAAA FMIC kit before I install everything. I'll post more up after I'm done. I paid $225 for it.

wow I can't wait to get mine.. definitely looks like one of those $700+ kits that vendors sell here...
someone should just email XS-Power/SSAutochrome if we can get a group buy on these things $300 shipped each.. I mean they have sold these for as low as $200-250 shipped before they got popular.

That is the XSPOWER 24X12X4 with 3" inlet and oulet.
The piping I got of off ebay except for the one piece at th TB elbow, got it made at a muffler shop. I had the MAF ranslator where the big blue coupler ataches to it.
I switched to MAFPRO.

I also welded 3" nineties to the endtanks for a better angle.

I got the SBR manifold procoated to 2000degrees to see if that will keep some of the heat off of that ICP.

I bought my core for 200 and piping 30bucks.

Had my 56trim turbo on boosted 24-26psi no leaks nothing very happy awesome cooling why pay more nuff said :thumb:

The intercooler came today. The packaging was great, it came in a box within a giant box filled with peanuts. The intercooler was at my door within four days. Its the 24x12x3 core, its 31 inchs across from end tank to end tank. It looks amazing and the quality looks good too. I wont be installing it till next weekend but here are some pics I took. I guess xs power and ssautochrome are for sure the same guy cause I ordered this from ssautochrome and it says xs power on the top.

Wish I wouldn't have gotten a ticket lastnight for Loitering :( Now I don't have near enough money to buy one...

No, they don't.... Well where I live its a really big small town if that makes sense...Its a really rich town with nothing in it so basically all we do on friday and sat nights is ride around.. So they're always out just pissing us off over nothing. My friend got pulled over for his FMIC for some reason. I don't nkow what he was trying to charge him for but, yeah they're really ###.

96 dollars plus court costs = no fmic and yet longer down time for me

Alright guys.. here is my preliminary review of the XS-Power/SSAutochrome FMIC 2G Kit..

I'll let the pics do the talking first..

First impressions are good. As you can see, the packaging was very professional. It was packaged very nice and secure. I'm not going to be installing it until I get the pipes powdercoated in black. I really have no complaints. The kit seems very solid. I know a lot of people here wouldn't trust anything from ebay when it comes to performance parts, esp. XS-Power/SSAutochrome since they already had a bad rep with that turbo. However, how can you go wrong with an intercooler kit?

and..

How can you beat $290 shipped to your door
