Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

you guys need to kick back on the bidding on the XS-Power fmic kits.. yall are killing the deals making it go up as much as $400 (dsmdemon96, and 98spoolingst).. These can be had for $280 shipped if yall are patient...

Ha..looks like somebody doesn't know Ebay bidding etiquette..a little tip, bid at the last 5 or so seconds before the auction ends. You bidding days before it ends will just make you pay more money...www.bidnapper.com is your friend :thumb:

yea i know how to bid, thats why i mentioned it. the main reason the ebay fmics are so great is because of the price, but if people are bumping up the price to $400+, ill pay an extra bill already to get a brand name one from one of the dsmtuner site sponsor/vendors..

In the first pic what happened there? The top of the core looks somewhat bent was it bad shipping or did you drop it by accident?

Package came damage a bit..nothing soo big ..just that upper edge...
rest is okay..just alu pipes got few scratches.....
6weeks shipping from US to CZECH Man..thats that PAIN:cry:

Well I finally bought my front mount today. I got the 24x12x3 core with polished endtanks from ssautochrome. I plan on just piping the one side right to my upper greddy intercooler pipe(long route). and then doing the turbo to intercooler pipe myself. What is a good bend to use for the 180º needed to go around the driver side? Ive never bought piping so I am clueless when it comes to the sizes and stuff.

Go to JC&Whitney and get a 180 degree bend then cut it to the length of your choosing. The intercooler are what 2.5 or 3 inches? Just get the same piping as the endtanks if not the get the reducers if needed

I sent them an email requesting the tracking #'s be emailed out to me and they replied. I just got my FMIC from them and it took about 4 days. Awesome kit BTW.

Seee people..this is how you do it on Ebay!

The auction was set to end at 17:23:15. I clicked the button to put it in seconds before, & apparently it went in at 17:23:15 on the dot.

Do any of you guys have problems with you car over heating after installing a fmic. I heard of lots of people saying that they over heat after installing one.

Usually this is due to an oversized intercooler blocking the front of the radiator and sufficating it from the needed air flow. A resonable size intercooler can be run in a stock bumper with stock cooling fans and not cause an over heating problem. Anyone running a larger intercooler should have high flow fans to ensure proper coolant temperture is maintained when the car comes to a running stop (stop and go traffic:barf: ). Other ways to cure this problem is to lower the under hood tempreture by opening the front of the car with an aftermarket bumper that opens the front end to air flow or a hood with functional scoops.

I have a tube/fin intercooler, 28"x9"x2.75", and have no overheating issues whatsoever. I think it just depends on the size and style of intercooler and how efficient the cooling system is per car. If there are issues with the car running hotter than normal without a FMIC, that's only going to compound the problem.

I run only 1 stock radiator fan and have had no problems maintaining 190-210* temps all through the summer regardless of traffic/highway/track with my 24x12x3 core.

If you are really paranoid, you could make some ducting to direct all air through the intercooler, then through the AC condenser/radiator.

Question, doesn't the 2g ECU pull 1 degree of timing for every 2*F over 206*F?

Yes but what are your average day temps there spring-fall? I noticed you are in Michigan, so I doubt you are in the high 70s -mid 90s for most of the year, with mid days being over 100 in the summer.

local temps can play a HUGE role in whether x-brand FMIC works well with no overheating for your car.

Question: Is that the Core size? if it isn't please let me know....

I am looking a fmic in Ebay wich it is 28"x 9" x 3" (doesn't specify anything), I replied the guy for the core size. And He replied me back saying that it is posted on the auction. (WTF). I am trying to find out. what is the average size of the intankes.... 4" or 4.5"????? :toobad:
