Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

^ Umm I don't think the 2g would fit on the 1g without some pretty heavily modification..correct me if I'm wrong, but I do know that SS/XS do make 1g kits.

While at Ebay, search for DSM FMIC and it will come back with a couple of 1g kits.

I think some of you may be happy to hear this.

Last night I sent SS Auto an email asking them about their kit and they acutally replied this morning. I then also asked if he would be interested in doing a Group Buy for us.

Waiting upon email. I will post up as soon as replies

The only thing that I'm not going to liek about the SS/XS kit is we're going to have to ditch the stock fog's :(

So where exactly does the short route piping go through to come back up to the TB??

Yeah, that idea kinda bothered me to, but I decided to get some decent after market fogs and hook them up the factory switch and mount them in the stock holes if possible, and if not then I'll put them in the opening with the intercooler like my friend did.

i posted my install earlier in this thread(page 3 i think) well, it still isnt done. i recieved 4 couplers with mine 2 2.5 inch and 2 i think 2 inch, well i know im not the smartest man in the world, but you need 3 2.5 inch couplers( one for tb elbow to bov pipe and 1 from bov pipe to into the intercooler and one coming out of the intercooler to the pipe that goes toward the turbo. i emailed them asking about this and i seem to be getting the runaround . first they sounded like they were going to send me a coupler and 2 clamps then they told me to buy them at a local speedshop:notgood: no local speedshop here, so i sent them 2 ebay links for a coupler and 2 clamps for like 20 bucks total and havent heard anything since(been about 4 days now), so expect to pay atleast 20 bucks more for 2 clamps and a coupler...

i guess i cant be mad since i got everything for 260 shipped but still.:nono:

I paid only about 325 for my whole setup including a dejon tool j pipe / 2.5 inch i/c piping / 31 x 6.5 x 2.75 FMIC, couplers and clamps ,I even bought my i/c piping from ebay, but if your going to buy the piping off ebay ditch the clamps they give you cause there shit and also you want to get the ends the the pipes beaded so your couplers won't leak or burst under boost, heres some pic's :thumb:

Looks like a dead animal...

Have any of you guys pressure tested these things? I haven't read through the whole thread, but I was just wondering if anyone has found any leaks in the cores or any of the welds on the IC piping...

well, I asked him if could buy just the core and he replied "NO ITEM AS IS".

thanks.

some people have got the kit for <$250 shipped.. if you don't want the pipes sell it.. as of now I can't find anything to complain about this kit (based on the price).. I'm kinda surprised how cheap they can sell these.. makes you wonder how much it cost to mass produced these..

if anyone requires some high quality pics of a certain part of the kit let me know..

I have a request... GET IT ON YOUR DAMN CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to see a few more pics of it installed :thumb:

Damn, all you guys still questioning the SSautochrome 2g Kit? For the money, its great.

What pictures do you want, I have a DC and the car is sitting outside, and I have 30 minutes of sunlight?

If you don't already know what a FM install entales, you should either research install VFAQ's or let someone else (performance shop) do the install.

Waiting more than a few days for a coupler is rediculous, NAPA stocks rubber radiator hose in close to every diameter for $ per inch. T bolt clamps are usually available at NAPA too.

The core and piping kit is near 100% perfect if you are already running a turbo with the compressor housing pointing straight down. T25/TD05 turbos will REQUIRE some custom fab to use the piping kit, thats just how the KIT is.

The bumper is going to REQUIRE signifigant trimming, and also the bumper cover. Foglights are still a option if you are willing to ditch the stockers, and get a set of small round ones and "mount" them in the stock foglight location however that job requires.

The radiator support REQUIRES modest trimming to fit the 2 1/2" outlet pipe through in the proper location. However you cut that, be careful as a large wiring harness is tucked inside the radiator support. The stock coolant overflow will have to be ditched for either a aftermarket coolant overflow can, or a Gatorade bottle (I have heard that the stock coolant overflow CAP fits a gatorade bottle perfectly) OR the stock bottle "Relocated".

I have only driven my car about 20 miles in the last few months, I am waiting on some parts to come in to finish her up "properly".

What pictures would you like to see?

EX, I'd like to see a full straight on pic, a side/front but not too far from the side, engine bay, the piping that comes back through the radiator section...

Thanks :D

Piping connection to turbo outlet. I have the FP Big28 as well. Care to share any details on the fabrication required to make the pipes work.

Close up of drivers side piping into the intercooler. Just want to get an idea if I'll have to relocate my a/t tranny cooler that's in the driver's side air duct (97 bumper)

Stock fan fitment. Whether you needed a slimline replacement or two.

Do you think there's sufficient enough length between the throttle body pipe and bov flange to modify the upper piping for blow-through 3" GM MAF? If possible, I plan to cut the piping accordingly and have beads rolled on the ends that are cut.

I appreciate the willingness to help.

For the t28, you would need a 180º pipe to reroute the piping back over to the driver side

:edit: Or you could take the turbo back off, take a sawzall and completely cut off the elbow straight to where its completely down firing, then find a pipe with teh same I.D. as the turbo outlet that would need to be roughly an inch longer and take it to someone with a TIG welder and have them tig the extension onto the turbo oulet after being filed and smoothed then you have a downfiring T-28 that will accept the piping as is

Sun went down, how about tommorow?

Yup, hacked the elbow off the T28 and modified the FMIC lower pipe to fit it.

Waiting on new coolant overflow to come in, but for the right now the coolant overflow bottle is where the SMIC was.:sneaky:

I'll do my best to get you all some good pics, just don't be too critical on my car, right now its not a good topic

This kit is incredible. I installed it 2 nights ago, and though I haven't done much tuing yet even at 18psi it's a HUGE improvement over the Supra SMIC I was running. I got mine for $295 a week or so ago. I haven't leak tested it yet but considering the improved performance my gut feeling says theres no chance of a major leak.

When I opened it I realized i'd seen this FMIC before, after some searching I realized where I'd seen it... AGP Turbo... Kit sells for $850, with some added options. If that is the same FMIC, I am shocked at how cheap we are getting them. The pipes do seem to differ some though.

Whoever was complaining about a silicon pipe.. My kit was also missing one, and was short two clamps as well. Wasn't a big deal thought, I had plenty more just gathering dust. If that's the only thing wrong with these kits it's hardly a reason not to get one, if the price is right.
