Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

i finally started installing my fmic so i figured id share some pictures.

had to cut that triangular bracket where it attatches to the center latch holder thingamabob.
also i chose to keep the factory crash bar because my 5 year old is in my car sometimes(safety first:nono: ) but i notched it perfectly with a sawzall to fit snug right around the fmic.
the mounting tabs on the intercooler were kinda goofy, i had to bend the top middle one in some, so that the side ones would sit flush against the frame where the stock fogs were.the side ones were square hollow bar so i drilled big holes in the front of the side bracket so that i could fit a 10mm socket in there, but only drilled out enough on the back of it so the bolt fit through and i used the factory fog light bolt. seems to work good, ill do a full write up when i finish hopefully tomorrow...:talon:

almost forgot, i also looped my trans cooler line in the engine bay.

You did pretty much the same thing I did as far as notching the stock bumper support and re-routing the PS lines. It's interesting to see your bumper support is black; Mine is white. Weird. I've never seen a black one before.

Does your hood have any problems shutting since cutting that brace out? A friend cut something out when he installed his and the latch would bend down when he shut the hood. He fixed it by welding another brace to it, though. It might have been the center vertical support, now that I think about it.

was your bumper a plastic-like material? mine wasOMG .

i havent shut the hood yet, ill check tomorrow, but you got me worried now:cry:

Mine was a white fiberglass-ish material.

I'm sure your hood latch is fine. But with my install, I put a bolt through the center vertical support, along with two brackets on the lower frame rail, and I must have bent something very slightly because ever since, my hood latch rubs a bit on the loop on the hood whereas before it didn't.

So all in all, it seems the SS AutoChrome is teh win. Have we figured out what flange it comes iwth yet for sure???

SSAutoChrome 2G KIT for under $300 in some cases (I paid $340) FTW:D

there is a write up on them somewhere here on tuners...They said they seem alright but only time will actually tell. It hasn't been long enough for anything to have time to mess up and what not.. I personally wouldn't trust them...

oh im def. going to bid on an SS auto fmic. It looks great and seems to perform well....I'm just not liking how those pipes are alluminum though :(

awesome thread. anyone wnna buy and adfx core so i can get a new one.
on a side not does anyone know the minimum height of an IC that will fill a 2gb front bumper so that the black part can be cut off. and what is the max length so you can keep foglights?

Depends, you talking 2Gb GSX, or Talon? I have the kit from Extreme for the talon, I custom ordered it, here are the dimensions:

Core= 20"x7"x3"
End Tanks=2"
Overall=24"x7"x3"

They also make kits that retain the stock foglights for the GSX, just email them and they can make whatever for ya.

Doesn't look like ssautochrome has any more FMIC 2g kits. Is this the same kit? Huge FMIC w/short route?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DSM-...cmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQitemZ8032663463

Or I was thinking, buying a short route piping kit and then a core separate. Piping is around $100, and can buy a huge bar and plate for around $200-$250.

yes, XS and SS are the same. They've changed names a few times to a different name to sell their products becuase they get a bad rep under one name and noone wants to buy their products so they'll make a new name and sell the products under that name....Kinda shady but from what I've read so far on the XS/SS kit it seems reallynice.

Has anyone purchased a XS/SS 1g setup w/ piping?

^^Like that one.

I know most people who have tried the 2g setup like it, but there really has not been a definate answer for a 1g yet. Fill us in!:D

The only concern I see with this kit is that it looks like there are no beads made on the ends of the pipes (either welded or formed) so you might run into issues with the couplers coming loose under higher boost pressures.

Something to consider.
