Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

I talked ot a local shop that says he has used an Ebay intercooler on both his 10 sec evo3 and 10 sec evo 8 since day one. Both twin scroll gt35r kits...if it can hold that much CFM at 30+ psi, im sold!

Does anyone know if they make a back door one? You know where the outlets come out the back instead of the side? I hear it's easier to put these on 1g. Just wondering what the benefits to these are vs the side ones and if there are any on ebay. Man I love this thread.:thumb:

i bought this exact kit off eBay last month and i love it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1g-DSM-Intercooler-Kit-FMIC-tsi-gsx-talon-eclipse-16g_W0QQitemZ8030586127QQcategoryZ33742QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
it fits under my bumper support, no cutting at all, and bolts right up to my big 16g. i cant really give you an opinion of whether its better than the side-exit endtanks, because i havent had one of those. but it was definitely a much shorter route for the piping and a straightforward install :thumb:

Extreme make great stuff they have there own site and just sell these on ebay but $750 ouch. This is the whole reason I started this thread so we don't have to pay so much. But great kit though just lots of $$$$

awesome thread. anyone wnna buy and adfx core so i can get a new one.
on a side not does anyone know the minimum height of an IC that will fill a 2gb front bumper so that the black part can be cut off. and what is the max length so you can keep foglights?

i actually bought mine when they were having a sale before Christmas and mine was $595 plus shipping, totalling $645 shipped. but yeah when its upwards of $750 that can make people lean towards other companies

I'm thinking of buying the new Ferrari I just found on an eBay auction. Comes with a brand new Rolex, too, and I think the seller said a set of extra Michelins, brand new.

Should I bid or is this all crap "eBay" merchandise? Would I have to call them my "eBay car" and "eBay watch"? Is there a law for rebranding "eBay" stuff? Where do I get the little eBay stickers to cover the Ferrari badges? Do you use a Dremel or a disc sander to grind the logos off the tires? How do I get under the Rolex's jewel to scribe "eBay" in there?

Why in the world do you people insist on calling stuff you buy online "eBay" this or that? <i>An "eBay intercooler?"</i>

And why is price so perfectly tied to quality in the independant secondary market? <i>"You get what you pay for?"</i> Every damn time?!

If you shop hard and know what you're looking at, you can find stuff at a fraction of the original retail price at eBay. Does this make it junk ... and must you insist on calling it "eBay" merchandise?

Jeez, get a clue.

Don't get angry dude. People call certain products sold on ebay as "Ebay" because you really can only find them on EBAY. I'm sure if someone was inquiring about an actual Apex'i catback on Ebay, they wouldn't call it an "Ebay catback," due to it being sold on retail sites, and it being an wide known performance company. If someone went on here and just started talking about "xs-power," someone that doesn't shop Ebay would not know what the hell the person was talking about.;)

I finally got to install my new fmic today. I have not yet gone out to tune but i'll let you guys know any differences from my old fmic to the new one. Heres some pics. The old fmic was from boostcoolers on ebay and uses a spearco core 17x10x3 and the total size is 25x10x3. New fmic is from xo2racing core is 24x12x3 whole thing is 30x10x3 i still retain the foglights. If i wanted to i could possibly go to a 31-32 length wise and still keep the fog lights.

Thats the same core I just put on my 90 GSX, bought for $160 locally.
Works great, and is made very well. Welds are awesome, cast endtanks, and pretty good fin density.

Yes its a very nice piece alot better than my old one. Once i start tuning with dsmlink i'll make my final observation as to weather its a great intercooler or not.

I just bought the kit GSXTACY bought. For $250 shipped with short piping I can't complain.:thumb:

####ER!

It took me 3 days to get it at $280! Good job though :thumb: :rocks:

I love the core, Polished aluminum, pre-welded Greddy flange, aluminum pipes, QUALITY silicone hoses, and best of all, t bolt clamps. I swear that's the hottest shiot EVAR! Absolutely most cost effective purchase yet with my 18's w/tires new I got for $500 shipped.

Can't wait to pickup an aluminum radiator and smaller sidemount powersteering cooler and dual slimline fans and get this sucker on there!

is it really a greddy flange? the ones i see pics of including the other guy who posted pics looks like it is a 1st gen bov.. Please check on this as oone even the compy will answer my question.. it whats keeping me from buying it.. also will it bolt up to a t25 for now or a 16g or is it for a down fireing compressor?

Pretty sure it's a Greddy BOV. Either way, if it's for a 1G, it can be drilled for a Greddy.

i think im going with the xs-power fmic kit..

i PMed blackgsx2g, but this was before i read all the pages.. it answered all my questions and convinced me to go for it..

i will definitely keep you guys updated once i get it.. might take a while.. i have to sell some old parts, and im planning to powdercoat/paint the pipes, because i can't have them being polished/chrome here in cali.. where i passed smog with my 50 trim setup and supporting mods legally no under the table stuff :)

i just wished the couplers were red, but i cant complain

thanks guys

I have been looking at these for about 3 weeks now. Most were up near $300 and I came across one with 4 minutes left and it was at $175. I put my max bid at $225 and won it so $269 total with shipping and insurance. I'll post pics and reviews when I get it on next weekend.:thumb:

And I believe they come with a 1g flange. I hope so because that's what I have.
