Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

I'm looking into buying an Ebay intercooler and I'm leaning twards the SSAC 1g kit with its "unnecessary long piping". But are there any other good ebay/cheap kits that don't have ridiculously long piping that are proven to be able to handle the test of time?

THERE ARE KITS THAT ARE DIFFERENT BUT THEY DONT FALL UNDER THAT CHEAP Category. AND AS FOR THE INTERCOOLER WATCH FOR SLOPPING TIG WELD ON THE END CAPS WE GOT ONE THAT THE WELD WERE A LIL SKETCHY BUT IT HELP PRESSURE. ANOTHER THING IF YOU A CREATIVE FABRICATOR,, YOU CAN CUT TO FIT THE LONGER PIPE TO GO A DIFFERENT DIRECTION.

Is anyone running mangina24's kit with a 2Ga front bumper that can share pics? Care to share info on how much modification is required to the 2Ga front bumper to make this kit work?

Is anyone running this kit with a Magnus SMIM? If so, how does the Magnus fit with the short route piping? I was wondering because the the SMIM, as I understand it, lowers the TB by about 2" and moves it toward the passenger side about 2." Will I need to buy any special couplers (ex hump or long)?

If Mangina doesn't get more in stock soon I will just have to get the SSAC kit. Does anyone know what size coupler and t clamps are missing from the kit?

i have the 2g intercooler kit that a member has been selling. The kits are nice, there are a few design flaws though. The UICP isn't long enough barely fits. The LICP will not fit if you have a 16g with jpipe or a downward facing turbo. You will either A have to cut the pipe to make it shorter and add a coupler or cut it to make it shorter and then re weld it. The kit words fine with a t25 or t28. if the intercooler entrance pipe was shorter it would work out better too.

THIS THREAD NEEDS A POLL ATTACHING TO IT.
with this many pages of comments surely
a poll will give a better review instead of
having to go through 70 odd pages?
the top 6 most popular cores / ebay items maybe?

Well, seeing as you don't have your profile filled in or any mention of what car you have, we obviously can't help you pick a kit.

Yes, the thread's long, but there is some very good information in here. I'd suggest doing your best to read what you can.

i have a kit i'm happy with i just thought it was a good idea for
others looking for info / general reviews.

I don't know if this has been asked, but can the bumper rest against the FMIC? I am trimming mine right now. I want it to rest against the IC to help the bumper not sag and I like the look with no gaps, but is this ok? The IC won't get that hot right?

I was under the impression that you would need the jpipe that routes to the driver side of the front motor mount. Is there any way to use the jpipe that drops to the passenger side for the stock intercooler location with out cutting it? If not then I was just going to cut the jpipe and clock it then weld it back up..

I would like to reiterate the importance of the above statement. Where does one get the driverside drop J-Pipe? Would it be easier to "clock" the j-pipe? Linksys, what did you end up doing? I'm in the same boat right now. Can you post some pix of your final install? That'd be awesome. Thanks! :thumb:

Does anyone run a ssac fmic w/ a smim? Any way to get the ssac uicp to bolt up to the smim? I tried for a little while yesterday and tried w/ the stock elbow but didn't have much luck with something that would line up properly.
