I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

For the guys that have PM'd me I have a few more sets comming in around August with all black couplers and instead of just replacing the missing 2.5" coupler like on the previous run (ssauto kit is missing a 2.5" coupler and 2 2.5" tbolts) I have an 8" long 2.5" coupler to help the guys with slight fitment issues due to lower mounting of the core. This should help with fitment for the upper intercooler pipe and it saves about $40 - $50 when piecing everyhting together.

I got the xs power intercooler for my 1g and loved it!!! When my 93 got totaled i put it in my 95 and had to mod the ic pipes to make it work and it pefromed the the same!!!!! Love it. Too bad they got x'ed from ebay! They were very well priced for the quality regardless if they were knock off's!

I got the OBX FMIC and it looks good- even came with t-bolt clamps instead of the normal pipe clamps pictured.

My friend has the Godspeed kit with what appears to be the same core...He constantly pops his IC piping because those pipes weren't rolled out on the ends.

Tell him to use epoxy putty (JB Weld or any other) and make some beads on the IC pipes. Rough up the ends of the pipes with course grit, wrap a thick spaghetti of two part putty around the end, smooth it out and in a few minutes you have a bead that won't ever let go.

Go with the Slowboy FMIC setup. Well worth the money. Short route piping and very heavy duty. They use a Garrett core and you can't do any better than that for the price.

I'm sorry but with most Ebay kits you get crappy couplers and no t-bolt clamps. Slowboy's route piping is NICE and it comes with 4 ply couplers and t-bolt clamps

There's a reason kits on ebay are only $300...you get what you pay for

The consensus is eBay FMIC are a good buy, unless you are seriously trying to squeeze every last ounce of horse power out of an engine.

i say go with the ebay one, depending on your goals if you want to run 9's then go with the slowboy otherwise you will never see the limits of the ebay setup. I agree completely that the slowboy one is better built and a better unit but the ebay one works almost as good and for a ton cheaper! If it was me i would put that money elsewhere! *my paypal address is [email protected] just incase you got extra money to throw away* hehe

Well I see your point in saving money for other parts he may want but why not get something good the first time ya know? I mean...there aren't too many people in the 9's but alot of people still use the slowboy setup.

Look into XS/SSAC FMICs. People who buy SBR or ETS intercoolers most often don't know anything about ebay intercoolers.

I have an eBay FMIC. The first link the op posted. It comes with great couplers and t-bolt clamps. The kit was short one coupler but had extra t-bolt clamps. I love this FMIC. The only problem is that there are no install instruction but you should be able to figure it out. If not, then wait for me to do a write up.

XS/SSAC is a great front mount. Very cheap and very good quality. I've boosted up to 27 psi and have had mine for well over a year and love it. I'm sure the more expensive ones are great too, but for the price and quality, you can't beat XS/SSAC.

I have and SSAC style intercooler that I bought from E-bay. Overall I like it but I had to get all new clamps because the ones that came with it stretched out as I tightened them and I needed one extra long coupler. The intercooler functions fine for my B16G at 20psi.

I do have a J-pipe from ETS that added $90 to my FMIC kit but made install so much easier. And after seeing the quality of this one pipe form ETS, and how much better the craftsmanship and quality is than the piping with the e-bay kit, I would say that the ETS kit is well worth the money if you have it to spend but the E-bay kit can get you by on a budget if that is what you need.
