I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

yes there is a thread and you just posted in it. there are 76 pages with a lot of informative crap here, just read it and it should answer questions you have now or will have later.

I found a FMIC kit for like 170. It comes with everything in the picture. Instead of the intercooler being a bar and plate, its a tube and fin design.
Do you think its worth the buy? He only lives about 45min-1hour away from me.

thats just a universal kit, not made for your vehicle. if your good at fabrication you could use that kit and try to make the pipes work

Im using a cx racing 31 inch with the 2 3/4 inch tubing and its great. I live in Can. and payed about $300us in total including shipping. My mech was specticale when I told him were I was getting them from, but once he saw it he was very impressed with the quality. It was a universal unit so it took a liitle bit longer to install, but worked out great and looks great.

I installed a "just intercoolers" ebay bar and plate intercooler (18x12x3 core) in place of an old ETS tube and fin (25x6x2.75 core) front mount. Before the swap boost was set to 20 psi and after installing the ebay cooler boost jumped to 26 psi without adjusting the mbc !! The turbo not only spooled quicker but made alot more power. The ebay intercooler minus water/meth injection made more power than the ETS 'cooler with water/meth. The best part was the price...$58. I paid $200 for the ETS years ago. I also installed their aluminum piping kit. I wish I'd installed one of these years ago.

OK. So ive seen hundreds of pics and only a couple good ones of the piping. I am trying to decide how I want to run my piping. Can we get some routing pics of the drivers side. I have a large core and cant go through the radiator support. This is on a 1ga. Thanks.

I run a CXracing 4" core with 3" piping. Here is some pics of how mine was routed. Even though mine was cut I think it it can be installed without cutting the radiator support.

Thats awsome man. Great looking set up and car. That is exacitally what i needed to see. My core is just as big as yours but its only 3" thick. And its CX racing as well. Have you run a core from them before. This is my first one and ive heard good things, but, it is an ebay company. So we will see. I got the core and piping so cheap, I cant, not use it. The only thing I cant figure out is how you got that fat a$$ pipe by the oil fillter housing. Mabe I'll have to take my bumper off again and get a good look at it. But the last time I looked It wasnt going with out moving or cutting something. So thank you again, and good luck with the addiction.

Thanks! You're welcome. If I can help I will. This is the first time i've ran a CXracing IC. I am more than happy! AIT are nice and low even in 98* weather. I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied. From what I remember the subframe was shaved a tad bit for clearance.

Not for DSMs, but...

We recently bought an eBay air:water intercooler for an engine test stand for large diesel engines. 1500 CFM it said, for $300, rather than $1300 from the big-name guys. We fed a 100,000 btu kerosene jet-engine-type space heater into it, and sucked through it with a 15 HP exhaust extractor (not a little 1 HP unit, this sucks a pretty hard vacuum through 4" pipe). With water from a garden hose supplied, intake and outlet temps were 80 and 85 degrees. Not super scientific, but the thing flowed better than a pipe, and cooled very well. Just FYI.

Most intercoolers turn out to be the same... It all depends on the design of the intercooler itself on to how well it will effectively cool the intake temps.

I have two ebay FMIC, both have GodSpeed on them. Great product, no leaks. 1st FMIC was a Greddy style delta fins design, held up very good at 30PSI cooling air from a 60Trim Garrett, not bad. My current 4" core GodSpeed FMiC with 3" in/out bar and plate design will take all sorts of abuse, seller pressure tests them at 100psi. Here are some pictures of 4' core FMIC installed.

i fabricated 2 top mounting brackets and 1 bottom bracket, trimmed bumper support, trimmed bumper cover. Pipes, T-bolt clamps, and couplers I bought from extremepsi and a local shop, highly recommend spending extra cash and get vibrant brand silicone couplers, they are simply amazing. Pipes had to be cut to fit and ends of pipes had to be rolled. Quality of intercooler IMO is great, very nice welds.

It's only 27"x7"x2.5" and maybe that's why it sucks so badly. I finally installed a temp sensor in my UICP after years of battling knock all the way down the back half of the 1/4 mile, and the results were less than stellar.
On a 68* night, my engine was ingesting 120*+ air while the MAF was registering 68* air from my CAI. That doesn't seem really good to me but again, maybe it's just too small of a core. It's a delta fin design, and it fit without any cutting, but as soon as I hit boost, the temp begins to climb. Even at speed. I don't reccommend it to anyone, unless you only drive slow. If you drive in full boost for 10-12 seconds at a time, it's not for you.

..I run a true ebay fmic...megan racing is not an ebay brand btw . modern automotive performance sells many of their products and even uses quite a few on them on their 8 and 9 second rx-7(FDSM 4g63T powered), lancer, and eclipse. The one on my car is an XS Power 27X11X3" FMIC with 2.5" piping...I'm running a T3/T4 Precision Turbo HP Tech 6265 billet turbocharger at no less than 30psi...sometimes up in around 50psi and have had no problems with excessive egt's. Then again...I dont use just an intercooler to drop intake temperatures...I have a methanol injection system and run a dry ice cool box on my fuel line to drop combustion chamber temperatures and egt's.

Don't get me wrong...I've heard some real horror stories about ebay FMIC's...popping a weld being the least of your worries...what you REALLY want to be careful of is that you dont flow so much air that you start snapping the internal fins off and sucking them into your turbo.

And I know the comment about buying a same-side intercooler is a little old, but I recommend against it. Sure, routing the pipes was pretty easy, but it would have saved me a lot of time and money if I would have just gone with a VRSF or SSAC kit. It's just not worth the hassle.
