Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Technically nothing, you just might need to modify the L shaped pipe on the end or shorten the lower intercooler pipe.

Wrong, you will need a jpipe. If you don't already have one for your 2g w/16g turbo. If you do have one, some cutting will be required like mangina said.

I percieved his question as "what will I need to buy in addition to a j-pipe".

Silly question, but would'nt the T25 work a lot more due to the bigger volume space in the FMIC? Just wondering!

Yes, you will experience some turbo lag over the stock SMIC as it will take more time to fill the IC/pipes before it reaches the throttle body

Mine really only lags maybe 100-200rpms more than the stock sidemount.......

i really felt a good diffrence with my 2G SSAC FMIC kit.

That is mostly because of the intercooler pipes

They dont pinch down to some smalll ass size like the stock pipes do, and they are also not rubber whcih expands under boost (boost drop)

when buying a fmic or any mod for that matter buy for what you have planned. if you plan on going low to moderate boost, SS auto chrome sells a cheap fmic for a 1g or 2g, it comes with the core, piping, couplers, t bolts and a uicp with fake tial. ive heard they have problems with the welds breaking under big boost but never experienced it personally. only problem with a cheap fmic is you usually have to trim the pipes and stuff to get a clean look. if you want to go big boost i would say check out buschurracing.com or extremepsi.com, they have a good selection of fmic

Welds don't bust

The SSAC 2g was proven to handle fairly high horsepower levels with no signs of failure.

But yes, it does require some custom work for a "good" fitment.

When I said Welds dont bust, I was talking in terms of the SSAC

What I meant was "The welds on the SSAC aren't known to bust"

But I didn't take the time to fully phrase it, and of course anything is possible, but it shouldn't happen with your average dsm setup

;)

Is it pointless and most likely less productive if I put at front mount with my t25?

no, it'll increase power slightly, though with greater lag. the important thing is you'll have it for when you upgrade, if indeed thats what you'll wanna do in the future.

I disagree. If you are still on the stock T25, you will not benefit at all from an upgraded FMIC. The only reason I'd ever consider the SSAC kit is if I know that I will be upgrading to a larger turbo soon and I've run out of supporting mods to do (besides UICP/LICP). At that point, an FMIC would be the next logical choice, otherwise you're going to have that T25 blowing it's hot air into a ship instead of a fishing boat.

I also disagree, if you have a t-25 you will see a noticeable loss of power due to more pressure needing to be built with the bigger piping and the increased surface area. It's not necessary.

so, I recieved this kit in the mail, and it does NOT work with a DSM, and it does not really make any sense for ANY car, but with a cut here and there, and a few tig welds, it will work.. so I'm not pissed.. the quality of the pipes are pretty good and I can make it work fine with a bit of modification.
the guy claimed he bought it for his DSM, but never had a chance to install it, but I figure by the time I send it back, and buy a different kit (this is the only one he had) I could easilly modify this one to fit.
it does have a turbo outlet pipe designed for the stock turbo, but nothing else seems to be for a dsm.

Speaking of modifying, I just put my LIPC back on so I figured I'd snap a couple pics to show how mine is setup. this is the SSAC kit with the middle pipe cut about 4" and joined with an extra coupler.
