Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Listen to this guy :thumb:

Not only does it include black couplers, but it includes the missing coupler, missing t-bolt clamps and it has a lifetime warranty and the seller actually has experience with this intercooler and responds when you send e-mail them unlike 80% of vendors.

Technically yes because you don't have the same amount of surface area but I haven't heard any complaints with surging. I believe the people who do have problems just adjust the spring.

Not tryin to be lazy or anything, but I grazed over the whole 70 something pages and didn't see (or just missed entirely) anything about which Ebay IC's to AVOID like the plague... anyone have some insight, or can tell me that I just missed the post so I can look back over it?

installed mine today , the SSAC one. cliff notes for intalling on a 2g auto awd car....

just outside the engine bay :

The trans cooler can be relocated in the same area, without having to undo the lines.

I removed the bumper support/crash guard. and the brackets that go with it.

I moved the power steering cooler line behind the T bar so it didnt rub on my fmic.

I mounted my FMIC by drilling holes on the mount tabs , and then used the fog light bracket bolt holes to mount it.

make sure the pipe that comes off the fmic doesnt touch the radiator.

Relocate overflow bottle to where the smic was. and mount it in there one way or another.

Inside the engine bay:

theres 2 brackets i removed to make more space. their on the passenger side by the BOV.

yes the TB elbow is a pain in the ass to remove and re-install the new one.

you have to unbolt the trans dipstick tube and swivel it around until it out of your way. and secure it to something using a zip tie. and run a longer vaccum line back to the trans. there is one attached to the dipstick that runs to the trans.

that is all, but i may have missed something.

This is the style/intercooler you want to go with if you have a 2g.

eBay Motors: 95 - 99 2G DSM 4G63 Eclipse Talon Intercooler Kit FMIC (item 330197826494 end time Dec-18-07 14:31:37 PST)

They also have a 1g version floating around but the piping is excessive.

I'm adding a 14b swap at the same time of possible fmic install, if I was looking to go with an aftermarket jpipe, what size outlet do I need to match up to the intercooler?

I have the ssac fmic (greatest intercooler for the BEST price) and I just put a 1g throttle body on my 95 yesterday and the ssac piping is made for the 1g tb becasue it comes in 60mm piping. Which is great becasue I didnt have to port that out!! So if you get a 2g ssac fmic put a 1g throttle body on your list of stuff to get.

Technically nothing, you just might need to modify the L shaped pipe on the end or shorten the lower intercooler pipe.

I was under the impression that you would need the jpipe that routes to the driver side of the front motor mount. Is there any way to use the jpipe that drops to the passenger side for the stock intercooler location with out cutting it? If not then I was just going to cut the jpipe and clock it then weld it back up..

I have a write up coming so hold tight an hour or so.

Is this something new being offered? I thought that you were selling these on eBay as TSV_sales...

Nope, the lifetime warranty applies to all FMIC's we've sold in the past as well as present.

And yes thats me :)

Thanks but I wasn’t talking about the t25 and the link doesnt work. I was talking about the 16g jpipe for the 2g that drops to the passenger side of the front motor mount. If you have the jpipe that drops to the passenger side you will need to either buy a FMIC jpipe that drops to the driver side. Or you could modify the jpipe for the 16g so that it drops to the driver side. What I was planning on doing is cutting the pipe at the base of the flange where it bolts to the 16g and clock it and trim it so it drops to the driver side then weld it back up so it can be used with the kit/lower intercooler pipe. Has any one attempted this? Any pics?

The piping on that kit is immensly excessive. There's another 1G kit floating around that costs a little bit more but is a much better option.

yah, it's a bit long where it attaches to the turbo, I guess it's designed to hook up to the stock flex hose that goes to the SMIC.. but I'm going to cut that piece off and make it work with a J pipe. That will cut down on probably 2 feet of piping.
