Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

I sent them an email the day after I received mine and complained about the coupler. No reply about helping out so I just bought another one. Like ryno said, it's cheap and readily available.

This has to be something they did on the 98 GSX. I went through this earlier in the thread because I had no clue what it was. I researched back and ended up finding a forum that DSMJIM posted with the same question. It ended up that on the 98 GSX/TSI they moved the charcoal cannister to this location. Here's a pic off his car. I yanked all this crap out and you can see why I had to. My pipes would not come close to fitting without all this gone.

You removed all of this? What did you do with all the lines that go there? Also what does the charcoal canister do and what harm would come if I removed it?

So you've had your kit for over a month and not install it because of the missing coupler and 2 clamps?

Why not just go to your local hardware store? Should cost no more than $10. So wow the total comes to a grand total of $300 ($305 for some, maybe even less for others) shipped. Add another $10-15 because I bought primer and black paint to spray the pipes. Also some some cutting wheels for my dremel, that was maybe another $15. Not too bad still.

If anybody wants pretty much the same identical kit, with no missing coupler and clamps, and fast customer service email support. Get the AGP kit.

http://www.agpturbo.com/product.php?productid=16204&cat=260&page=1

It's only $850 + shipping.

ok, let me get this right.
-some people are missing couplers and clamps.
-some people have bad welds.
-some have to have their tb elbows milled.
-some have to cut their pipe to make it fit. (is this one a special occasion, to make it fit with a certain turbo or 02 pipe or something)?

is there a majority of people with 100% ready to install front mounts, or a majority of people who have to "modify" it in some way? i'm happy i ordered the kit (haven't recieved it yet), but it seems like A LOT of people are modding their kits in one way or another.

side note: does anyone have pics of this kit with a recirc.'d 1g bov going to a stock intake pipe? i'd like to see how it fits. thanks

i think EVERYONE who ordered one had a missing coupler and clamps.

Bad welds has only been reported by one person. Apparently on the TB elbow.

I did not mill my TB elbow pipe.

I did not cut any of the pipes. However the 90 degree pipe is a bit long. Fortunately for me I had my 90 degree pipe from my dejon tool lower ic pipes which is shorter and fit perfectly. Cutting though would be the case. Although I am not sure if everybody is finding the lower pipes being too long.

I didn't get a conformation. I only got the e-mail back telling me where to send the money to.

He did respond back to my e-mail in a day so hopefully this will get resolved.

I see you have the 98 GSX where they relocated the charcoal cannister. Yup, I yanked all that crap out. I removed the lines behind the radiator and they stop right about where the core is on the passenger side. The lines actually go all the way back to your tank but you will see there are vacuum lines that connect the hard lines going to the cannister right around the core on the passanger side. I just cut them and took all hard lines out to the cannister. I also left the harness plugged in so I wouldn't get a CEL. I did not plug mine though because after researching it builds to much pressure in your gas tank. I just left mine open pointing to the ground.:thumb:

Everyone is missing 1 coupler. You can go get one for under $5.00.
-some people have bad welds.

Haven't had any problems with mine?
-some have to have their tb elbows milled.

Again, Haven't had any problems with mine.

i had to cut my licp so it was ''in'' more towards the radiator. It was hitting the oil filter housing. Most kits are not ''direct bolt on'' even though they say. I had the sbr FMIC kit and in no way was that a direct bolt on.. Although I Loved it. You get what you pay for, And for the price of this fmic, I am very pleased that I did not spend $800+ dollars on one for just the name.

Did you ever have a fmic kit before? Most of them you hafto modify. Although, If you don't want it, Someone else on here would definatly buy it and i'm sure you can go pay 3 times as much for another short route piping kit, And you'll still hafto do cutting.
side note: does anyone have pics of this kit with a recirc.'d 1g bov going to a stock intake pipe? i'd like to see how it fits.

No, Sorry.

I have more pictures, and I'll have to upload them later, but my kit was also missing a coupler / 2 tbolts, and I had to cut the pipe about 4" shorter. In effect, I had to use 1 extra coupler and 2 extra clamps for the new cut.

I haven't pressure tested the entire system yet, but I am holding 17" vac at 800 rpms.. I also can't comment on the performance since my car is stuttering and bogging at anything over 50% throttle

thats weird i had the same problem when my ecu capacitors went out, you should check them out.
later

I was the one who had the leaky tb elbow luckily i had someone who welds for a living and they fixed it for me.I am happy with the kit although i cant seem to figure out why I cant hold boost.I ordered an e316g so we will see.

I finally got all my ic pipes cut tonight, but I will go back tomarow and fine tune them. Also for those who are not using the crash bumper, is hte front bumper cover only held on by the 5 bolts by the hood latch and the two where the side markers are?

Damn, seems kinda flemsy doesn't it???

No, mine's sturdy.

PS Turned up the boost to 21lbs today, haven't had a chance to log it yet, but it runs like a raped ape, and holds the pressure just fine....Lovin' this IC:rocks:

LOL, no pressure. j/k... i just started rebuilding the turbo today, i already have it ported, once i mount the turbo i'm going to start installing the kit. but, i think i might start sooner on atleast getting it mounted and ready for the easy part, wich is the tubing. wouldnt wanna let you guys down:thumb: ...LOL

Heh, screw you guys....I just cant wait to actually get mine running again :D So everyone tightened their lower right tb nut with a combo wrench?
