Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

No you have to get rid of your fogs. Not sure if the group buy is on again, I heard another one this month.

I received this as a pm, but his inbox is full, and I thought it might help the T-25/28 users:

hey i still have newbie status and i had a couple questions about the xs power fmic. first off you said you spent about 100 to install it. what all have you had to add onto it? i am up to $35 after getting the tb elbow machined and buying miscellanous bolts and stuff.. i also saw that you cut the compressor housing on the t25. what did you use to cut it? have you had problems with pipes blowing off since the end of the t25 isn't beaded? thanks man

I used a Hacksaw to cut the elbow off of the turbo, I posted a pic of this earlier in the thread. The clamp in the pict I put on just as a guide so I wouldn't cut off too much of the outlet.

I had to buy 2-4" length 2.5" couplers for the upper IC piping, there wasn't enough area to clamp on the couplers that were included with the kit, and 2 T-bolt clamps to replace the ones that weren't included in the kit.

I bought a cast aluminum 2" 90* elbow to replace the 2" 90* bend that was included with the kit. I could not get the pipe that was included to fit to my satisfaction.

I had to buy a 1.5" to 2" reducer to connect the lower IC piping to the turbo, and a 1.5" T-bolt clamp so it wouldn't blow off.

Pipes all held to 19psi.
Hope that answers all of your questions, feel free to ask more if you like.

I just wanted to add that I am very satisfied with this purchase. I was very meticulous with this install, and I made sure that everything fit to my liking before proceeding to the next step(thus the week and a half install). If I were to do this again, I would have it done in half a day.

After driving the car on several balls to the wall runs last night, the core was as cold as ambient.

If anyone is interested, I took pics of the entire install, and I'll have some free time tonight to do a complete write up of my install after I compile and edit the photos.

Once again, this was a very good buy! Couldn't beat this $400 deal!

Well they are hard to contact. Just make sure you have a topic title when u email them. Keep trying, theyll get back to ya.

I bought all of them and will be selling them for $400 + shipping.

jk :)

Just search "2g dsm fmic"

and it will narrow it down, all the xs kits should show up and a few other ebay fmic kits who think they can hang. Looks like by the time the auction ends.. they are going for around $350-400 shipped right now. That is still a good price considering other FMIC kits that are inferior or similar are $700-1000. Still great for all you cheap ass dsm owners. :p

Yea it comes real close to touching.

I seriously think while I'm braking something is interfering with the oil sender light, because when I brake the oil light goes on. It goes on with how hard I press the brake. Almost like a sensor when I'm pressing the brake. Yea ridiculous I know. Not a big deal, but it makes my GSX actually have a "problem".

For all the T25/28 people, the 90 degree coupler ended up working, so I didn't hack off the outlet. You will need a slimfan to replace the passenger's side cooling fan. Add that to your expenses.

The LICP angles toward the the radiator, but it will work.

Blow-through is also possible for the 3" GM MAS users. I cut maybe ~4-5" off of the TB elbow pipe.

I guess the licp needs to be cut or the part it connects to off the drivers side endtank. It seems as though it hits my oilfilter housing if I am not goin to cut it to make it come in closer....

I had to do the same thing. I cut the 90 deg pipe on both sides about an inch and then cut the licp about 2" because it was hitting the oil filter housing and was too long. Once you get everything fit thought he kit works great. I havn't had a single issue.:thumb:

The only problem I'm having is getting the front bumper cover cut to where it will fit. Also I just got my turbo back so I'm going to throw it on today and get it mocked up. But of course I have to get a EM stud drilled out and get my oil pan where the oil return line goes in becuase one of the threads got stripped.

So, I have to cut both sides of of the J pipe that comes off the turbo on both sides about an inch? Also then I need to cut the LICP just on the 90º end by one to two inches? Or does it need to be both sides also?

that would be me, i am still currently porting and rebuilding my 14b, that is why i have not been able to start fitting this on. i will be getting to it soon because it is a really nice kit and i would really like it to fit. i have read evry single post on this thread thus far and will continue to until i install it on my 1g, it always helps to see pictures even though it is of the 2g's. the one thing i need answered by the people that have installed this kit on there car is does the throttle body elbow have to machined flat or have some of you gotten away with just bolting it on. i want that elbow on my car but if it does not seal flat and i cannot find a machine shop, i will be using the throttle body elbow from my current fmic setup. so not a big deal, but i would like to know from now. thanks for the help and sorry it has taken me awhile, but i will post many many pictures and exactly what i did when i get this monster of a fmic to fit on my car, might be hard but worth the time and money i save.
later

I would get the intercooler bolted up. Then I would match up the pipes and then cut. I measered everything up first and then started cutting. I ended up cutting the licp on both sides as well because it was to long and it was also to long on the curve at was hitting against my oil filter housing.
