Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

14B is koo for AWD. but sucks for FWD turbos

The reason why you are leaking from the TB eblow is because the SS tb elbow flange area is not flat. You need to take it to a machine shop and have it resurface. Leak fixed.

I don't know about you guys but my god I've had all kinds of problems getting the front cover to go back on. I cant cut enough off!!!!!! Seems like I've cut wayyyyy too much off than what I should have....Does that sound normal?

I've been working on trimming and fitting for a while now dammit and I'm pissed.... EVERCLEAR TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to cut a shit ton off too. You're ok! I cut a notch out of the foglight holes and quite a bit off of the mouth of the bumper.

I don't think I'm going to have to hit the fog lights, but my god I've cut atleast 1" out of the mouth

You can leave the fog light covers alone, but the area behind the fogs you'll have to notch, they interfere with the endtanks. I didn't have to do any trimming of the side vents at all.

The only thing that I had to cut on the bumper itself was just for the opening. You shouldn't need to cut anywhere around the fog light covers.

Well I took the tb elbow off and had my step dads buddy retig the welds. It doesnt seem to be warped.I releak tested it and it seems like its holding now.Im gonna do a log and see if i got my airflow numbers back up.

Ahhh!! Damn you Greddy!! So far the piping has been good. The only other thing that I have to do to the piping is the turbo elbow and the other pipe that goes into the IC inlet. I have to get another coupler, install the turbo, get my oil return hole retapped, and hook the misc. stuff back up and I should be good. Since my car is in the shop I'm going to have him look at the TB elbow and see if its good.

Will somebody please make a install thread for this FMIC, that would be so very appreciated by probally a lot of people, I get mine next week and Im kinda nervous and confused now, after reading some posts.

Thanks

This entire thread is an install thread. READ IT ALL and it should answer a lot of your install questions. There are many pictures already in this thread that should help you enough. Until someone wants to sort this long thread and gather up all the info and pics and put it in a nice clean write up that is your only option.

I could help you out if you have any questions. Maybe even actually help with the install. Where in B-Town do you live?

Mine came in 3 days, But everyone thought it would be a good idea to not be here when fed-ex was... Needless to say it's coming back on tuesday.. I'm all ready for it to be installed :D

HOLY FACK! i just read this ENTIRE thing and im still undecided. So its 300 u.s shipped. i am going to be putting an evoIII in, i do have a stock 1g j-pipe. i was thinking about going with one from extremeintercoolers. they are 400 dollars more, but then again wont run into the problem of a leak at the tb, wont have to have the crap out of anything, will bolt DIRECTLY up to my evo, and i can pick a flange. i more confused now that ive read this than i was b4.

For 2G owners this seems to be the best fmic kit for the price. For everyone else trying to make the 2G kit fit on their specific car, you have to MAKE it fit, and if you can't you would have wasted money, time, labor.

I assume you're interested in 2G install help.
This is closest to the install thread. You'll have to use this untill I actually put together a step-by-step procedure. (All you really need is pics anyway, to give you a general idea, if you don't ahve it yet. Everything else is figured out on the spot)

All you kiddies looking for results....

How about 29hp increase without any tuning according to my DSMLink logs:rocks:

The last log I was making 233hp at 6078 rpm with a 34* intake temp(mid December).

Today's log I made 262hp at 5474 rpm with a 63* intake temp, and a much broader hp and torque curve:thumb:

Car's dirty, but a finished pic for ya...

Sweeeet!!!! I am so tired of people saying you get what you pay for as we are seeing this is not the case with these kits and other ebay items.

Keep in mind though. The kit was not complete, and I did spend probably $50-$100 on misc. items to complete the install.

But overall, I'm completely satisfied.

better than paying $800+ for a kit like some people do
