Hey folks,
So, I hope everyone is ok during this pandemic. Working from home is now giving me more time to do projects around d the house. I tried to upload a video but the file was too big, so let me describe it:
Eagle Talon was sitting up a few yrs in garage. Put in new clutch, new timing belt, water pump, tensioner she fired up after. I flushed the block, took her on the interstate a couple times and and on the way back, she cut off. Started back after a few minutes and she cooked out again but this time, engine smoking. Towed it home, put in a new head gasket and piston rings, just in case and cleaned the rust in gas tank and replaces with new gas and new fuel filter. Now when I start, she just makes a grinding noise and no start. New started and tested alternator passed 3 times. I can rotate engine by hand so it's not seized. I'm in need of help.
Stats: 91 Talon, 2.0, manual, non-turbo, all stock.

No problem. Bleed them upside down so anything trapped can come out. Idk how old your lifters are. If they’re old, it’s not a bad idea to soak them in kerosene or seafoam, pump them so it fills and leave them over night. Then bleed and repeat the process with oil. That’s what I did and I’ve never had lifter tick since. Mine are 1g lifter fwiw :thumb:

Yeah, that's awesome, man. Mine are the original ones I had when I got the car and I've NEVER bled them before. I honestly didn't know as much about cars back then as I do now. These are 1g also, as you can probably already guessed since I got it in back in early 90's. LOL

Those 1g lifters have a very small hole in the tip so I suggest a long sewing needle to get to the check valve in the bottom. I had to grind down a paperclip to super thin to get it down the hole and touch my relief valve to bleed my 1g's lifters.
I sure hope you don't have any bent valves. I have made the mistake before and it lead to more work and a lesson well learned. :thumb:

Yes definitely the small one. .03mm thick and 1.66mm long. I keep mine in the “dsm special tool stash”

Edit: inches not mm. Lol

They’re full of oil so just bleed, install and prime the engine before starting it.
So, I just bled them today and set them in a bucket of Seafoam. Most of them kept the spring action but there were a few that after I bled them. I had to push and pull just to get the movement going. Should I wait until this soak is done or do you think it's best to order new lifters before re-installing them? It's almost like the spring action is gone is some of them.

Yeah, I used a paper clip and straightened it out with pliers to bleed them.

So, here's the update:
New lifters came in yesterday and I installed. Same issue. Timing marks are on point and I can turn engine by hand as well, still.
