TL;DR My car won't start. It's cranking, so as far as I can tell, it's either spark, compression, or fuel mixture. I haven't done anything with the fuel or compression. There is also a possibly irrelevant oil pressure light and no other relevant lights. I am a NOVICE, but I figure fighting my way through this will change that. Still.... refer the second picture.
I have a 2G DSM that was abused by family members before I got it. I'm going through and doing basic maintenance: replacing all of the fluids, spark plugs, etc, because I have no idea when the last time they were changed was... the car hasn't been used in over 4 years. It ran when I got it (I have no idea how) but at one point, it sputtered and died. Now it cranks, but it hasn't started since then. I don't know if it's something I did or if it was just timing.
I changed the spark plugs, because they were looking rough (photo attached). When I got it, it had NGK BKR6EGP. I put the ones the manual recommended in (Champion RC9YC4). Initially, this is why I thought it wouldn't start. I put the old spark plugs back in to see, but it still wouldn't start. I also considered that maybe someone used those other spark plugs to compensate for something they put in the car... There's an aftermarket header and exhaust. I have no idea what kind or any of the specifics on those. I've looked pretty thoroughly at both, and neither have any identification at all. Either way, I'm in the process of buying a new set of the NGK spark plugs to see if that will fix my issue, but I don't think it will. Here are the specs for both:
Other than the NGK ones having higher quality materials and lower heat range, they look pretty similar
It has new oil in it. I used 4.5 quarts of Castrol High Mileage fully synthetic 5W 30 and a K&N HP - 2004 filter. There is an oil pressure light as well. It turned out that the first oil filter I bought had a defect I hadn't noticed when I was putting it on. It GUSHED oil when I cranked it, but I already replaced that. It doesn't leak anymore (from anywhere), but the light is still there.
I haven't touched timing, although the cam gears are exposed via a window in the cover that no longer has its cover. Not sure if that would cause a problem.
