The Intercooler cfm rating is the "Approximate (core) flow rate at 1.5 psi pressure drop", Spearco 1997-1998 Catalog pg4. Another quote, "You should look for an intercooler (core only) that has a pressure drop of approximately 1 psi and efficiency of 75% or greater".

The key is and. Like I said, an open pipe will have a hell of a cfm rating like the starion or evo core but the efficiency blows.

ok so if the turbo flows 500cfm, ideally you want an intercooler with a 1psi pressure drop and flows roughly 875cfm?

Yes, that would be a good match. If you guys want to shut up the doubters, go to www.dwer-inst.com and buy a minihelic differential pressure gauge (0-100" water) for like $48 or so. Its highly accurate and easy to hook up. It would tell you exactly how much pressure drop your I.C. has.
 
What did you do for the licp connection to the turbo? Did you buy a j-pipe, make one, or what?

That's a good idea but I don't care enough about the doubters to spend $48 bucks on them :)

I have no access to a welder so I coudln't fab up my own pieces. I purchased the Dejon J pipe that opens to 2.25" and sold my RRE J pipe. Re-used my old RRE LICP that's basically just a short 2.25" 90 degree bend to go from the J pipe and point towards the drivers side. Then a 2.25" 180* U bend from jegs and trimmed it down.
 
I am thinking about rotating my compressor cover so the outlet is on the bottom side instead of top and fabbing a pipe from there. The only thing I dont know about yet is, I am going to need a flange for it and I dont know where to get one.

This shall be interesting,

no numbers yet on how much CFM this intercooler withstands yet? I'm really interested in the the 8".. but im kinda undecided to whether go with a 2.25" or 2.5" piping all around... I'm only using a FP Big28... So I'm not like making 500hp.. but any have any good luck with the 2.25"? or is it just a waste of time considering that and just go 2.5", regardless...

Stoner - RRE has them for a couple bucks, check them out.

FWD98GST - trapspeed did all 2.25" piping, shoot him a PM. He's enjoying it but all of the extra air induced massive fuel cut :( :thumbdown
 
Yah, I got some numbers buy two of them, so you can be super cooling. LOL!!! :shhh: You'll be fine with 2.25 inches. It's not like you're going to be racing a VR4 and 1G GSX again on the fwy..at the sametime.... :p Don't be skerrrred....
 
hahahaha... you got now 4 days to come up with some $$$.... the gsx is no problem, but the v4r is something to be scared about... you pulled so hard on me.. how many psi you running?? :thumb:

On a t28 do you have to cut your compressor outlet and use a "c" type bend to connect your lower intercooler piping? Dejon sells the c but ive never seen a cut t28 for sale so im guessing this isnt a must?

It should be a direct bolt on and not have to worry about the lower IC. Just goes on.
 
You should buy two FMIC and the piping for two, and I'll meet up with you and custom it together.... :thumb:
 
I bought one from my friend the other night with piping from a GTI. Custom time. I will have it installed by next friday.

I still haven't installed my jrc yet. :thumbdown I'm a lazy mofo, plus it's too cold right now.
