I ordered one for myself this afternoon. It looks constructed very nice and for the price it might be hard to beat. I am interested to see some real numbers from it though. Can't wait to make a few pulls with it on to see what logs look like. I ordered the 8" FMIC with 2.25 inlet and 2.50 outlet so I will be making my own piping for it. Hopefully it turns out quite nice. We will see though :thumb:

I might consider making a tech article on installing it also. ;)

Yea, i ordered 2.25 on both sides... Dont really know why but i guess it really doesnt matter.

Well then why don't you follow up on it and contact JRC then post the results... Oh wait, because if they ended up being good you wouldn't have anything more to b*tch about. ;)

Take care,

Dustin :talon:

I asked him a long time ago before I purchased one. His response was he's never paid for the testing and has no scientific numbers for them. He makes them in his own shop, it's not a like a big upscale company or anything. He's just now getting into the business full time, he was just making the smaller 5 and 6 inch models part time. He keeps asking me for pictures for his web page but I havn't had time, I feel bad OMG

Hey trapspeed, send him your pics to use on his web page if you don't mind. He's looking for some 3/4 pictures like you've taken. One with the bumper on and one off. Plus you've seen my bumper :p not very photogenic right now :(

He asked me for some pics as well, I wonder if anyone has pointed him to this thread. It would some interesting reading for him!!!

hey......newbie here

first.....just wanna say thanks to all who supported this thread with whatever information they had. I learned a few things. Second.....just bought my neighbors 97 GST (moderately modified) and i think that FMIC will be my first upgrade for it........then a turbo and injectors to make use of it. You just cant beat that price....SHIPPED!

Yeah, same here. I received an email from him earlier today. He says there are more than two cars that have dyno'd 500 or better to the wheels. He said he figures the core flows anywhere from 750-800 cfm. Take that however you want it. I actually have a JR core from ebay (not to be confused with Johnnyracecar). From the pics on their auctions the cores look very similar. The JR core is one of the nicer ones I've seen, and they are somewhat "proven" hopefully the Johnny core does just as well. I might even sell my jr core and put whatever money I can get towards a Johnny core as the johnny core is a bit bigger. :thumb: Oh and Stapl3, I apologize for my post earlier it was a little out of line. I was at work and we all know how that can get... :p

I recieved the same email claiming that his intercooler has seen 500 hp (which equates to about 700 cfm). He also said that he is going to try and arrange a spearco (or other "proven" intercooler) vs johnnyracecar comparison on a dyno. I would be very interested in the results... the only problem is if spearco kicks his ass we will never see them.

Evo intercooler flows 1300cfm, which was the first thing AMS ripped off their car as it was garbage.

Surprise, surprise.

I have NO idea where you got the idea that 1300cfm is bad but just for comparison...

Stock 2g SMIC - 190 cfm
Supra MKIC SMIC - 496 cfm
Spearco (various) - http://www.turboneticsinc.com/air.html

My small Spearco 2-221 is rated at 1080 CFM. I will have it's installation finished next week and will post the results. I don't believe there is a Spearco rated at 1300CFM. Not a common one at least. The numbers are important. I believe the low price has numbed the grey matter of some and some are just new to DSM's. If these IC's come back with great numbers then this will all be put to rest. Mark

so you're saying AMS replaced the stock "1300 cfm" intercooler with their aftermarket core which they plainly state on their website as flowing 1250 cfm...

wow. i don't think anyone is surprised by your 14ck 0f kn0wl3dg3.

as for anyone expecting miracles and for this thing to beat a similarly sized spearco bar and plate core in a head to head shootout, well, i'm sorry. this is a budget intercooler perfect for budget set-ups. i don't think it will come back with "great" numbers, but i'm sure they will be pretty damn good for $195.00.

Quick, stupid question,

My big 16g is supposed to flow around 550cfm, how does that relate to how much the fmic flows? I mean if I can only flow 550 than a intercooler than can flow 700 or more should work great on my turbo right? Or do the two flow numbers not really relate like that?

Thanks,
Ben

Ben you have the right idea. Remember your turbo flows 550 CFM at 15 PSI. What does it fow at 20 psi? I agree cal the manuacturer of the IC you are considering. mark

You guys should call up AMS will all these questions, as they did the mod and testing.

People in this thread don't care what mods AMS did. Can you not understand plain english? Why don't you hit up AMS and post what they have to say? Then you would have some facts to back up your posts and poeple wouldn't give you such a hard time. ;) Like it's been said before (many times throughout this thread) nobody is saying the JRC cooler is better than any other cooler. I wouldn't expect this core to flow anywhere near as much air as a spearco ect ect for less than $200 hence the reason people are calling it a budget core.

How much CFM will a straight 3in pipe flow? The evo intercooler is made by the lowest bidder so efficiency suffers... that's why AMS replaced it.
