God these intercoolers are like a girl's diamond for the fellow dsmrs. "It's big, reflects light, looks great installed, and is sure to impress all my friends." "Oh, it's poor quality, don't tell me, I don't want to know".

Seriously though, these are kind of important parts of a turbo setup, people shouldn't blindly be putting these on because they're cheap and others say they "notice a difference" (people say that after getting a intake pipe for their t25).

Do you see what I'm getting at? Sorry for questioning this vital part.

I see what you're getting at but the same concerns have been expressed on every one of the 10 pages.

Read the reviews for results. For example, in my review I stated I was able to eliminate all of my knock with just the install(no tuning changes), and on top of that lean out my a/f 10-15% after turning my boost up to 18psi-20psi from 14psi. Obviously a huge improvement over the POS stocker. That's probably about the most indepth review you're going to get, no one here is going to dyno test these things for you guys or pay for bench testing. No one here is making any money off of these, I don't know why you would expect that.

Also, not a single person who has seen one in person or used one said anything about poor quality. In fact, i think everyone said the construction and material are top notch.

If you don't think the cooler is right for your set up, or you really do think they're junk don't buy one. What's the point of bad mouthing when all you know about them is they were sold on ebay and they don't cost as much as the more popular coolers. Maybe we can attempt to keep this thread focused...

I totally agree on what he says, :thumb: In my opinion this FMIC is the best bang for the buck intercooler you can get. Currently I am running a 20G with a Supra SMIC(which are rated good up to 400hp) so I would think that this FMIC would be able to handle at least that. I plan on running about 20ish psi for daily driving and somewhere around 25psi on race gas. I will post up my review once I get the core in and installed with my custom short route piping that I am making.

Or maybe you just feel bad because you paid a high price for yours and need to justify it as being a waste of money
Try not to be a complete f43g. I was simply questioning the untested product people are eating up like it's going out of style.

And no, I don't have a fmic as my 16g doesn't need one. My supra smic works just fine, thank you. Don't come ouf of the woodwork to defend this shit like you're making it or something.

Cripes.

Just installed my Johnny Racecar core about a week ago.

Someone having their car dynoed does not seem unreasonable. A before and after may be to much to ask due to the expense. Since so many were bought surely one of the guys will get their ride on a dyno. Mark

I'm dynoing my car next month to see what I'm putting down. But, I'm not doing to to convince the masses these ICs are worth the money. Like I said I'm not selling them, i don't care if you buy one, I simply offered a review. I wish I hadn't now because look what happens.

Hey 98spydert,

Thanks for all the info in this thread, I am pretty sure that I am going to order one tomorrow. And dont worry about all the haters, all of your and everyone else's info has benifited many users in this forum.

Anyway I have a question for you, I think that I read that you used 2 1/4" od piping, what size outlets did you get the 2 1/2 or the 2 1/4, he is charging more for the smaller outlets and I plan on using 2 1/4 piping from jc whitney but if a I can get around paying the extra 10 bucks I will. I would just like to know what you did and I assume that I could just use reducers if I had to??

Thanks,
Ben

2.5"-2.25" coupling reducers.

I was not directly speaking of you, and yes I know most people had good questions that may have gotten out of hand. I was just trying to let 98spydert know that all of his posts in this thread did not go unappreciated.

Buy one and find out. That way you won't have to question how good or bad they are, you'll have hard facts to prove it.

I don't have a GST/GSX yet, but maybe I should buy the FMIC first while it's still available :thumb:

Yes, I'll blindly drop hundreds on a part I don't need, then hundreds to test it.

Awesome advice.

Man, you got a lot of excuses for somebody as vocal as yourself. Your the one with QUESTIONS that needed answering. These guys just told you they have no data yet. Test one yourself if your so impatient. Obviously you want these guys to spoon feed you the info which you wouldn't put to use anyway, since your not buying one and all

There must be a good reason an intercooler company won't release #'s on their products. If they thought for a second it flowed great, they'd test it right away and it would be their top selling point.

I didn't even know he offered smaller outlets. I don't know how much extra he charges for 2.25 outlets but if you're running all 2.25, you'll need 2 $20 reducers if you order 2.5" oulets. So if it's $40 or less for the smaller outlets, go for it.

I only used 2.25 piping on from the J pipe to the intercooler so I only needed one reducer. 2.5 from the ic to the t-body though.

Just make sure you're sticking with 2.25 piping and not moving to 2.5 later. It's easy to swap out couplers but a pain to weld in new outlets :thumb:

I just ordered mine, I went with the 2.25 outlets. I am sure that they will be enough for my current goals (mid 12's). If I get any decent days to drive with it once I get it installed I will post my impressions with it. I wont be able to give any real dyno numbers but the dsm link does provide hp estimates so that will give us some idea of what kind of improvement it will be.

Later,
Ben

If you can, post before and after logs of lb/min. Im curious of how the flow characteristics change after the fmic install leaving all other things constant.

Yeah, good idea. Try to maitain the same PSI. Then see how much more air you can flow with the new cooler before inducing knock

Just ordered mine... Its cheap and got good enough feedback for me.

Well then why don't you follow up on it and contact JRC then post the results... Oh wait, because if they ended up being good you wouldn't have anything more to b*tch about. ;)

Take care,

Dustin :talon:
