So today my new plugs came in and I took the black plastic cover off my valve cover and started cleaning out the crud and oil. then i noticed that someone has JB Welded my valve cover. boy is it ugly, the two right hand bolts closest to the timing belt cover you can't even see them. Just part of one. and to make it even worse, it leaks oil there. Now I'm wondering if it isn't the cause of the oil leak i have by the timing belt as mine doesn't have the bottom portion of the cover on it. Is there a better way to repair this or do i just need to replace it?

I just replaced my valve cover because the previous owner also used JB weld after obviously over tightening it. My cover was damaged in the same place as yours but when I took it off I as able to see all the damage.. I removed my valve cover and there was a big crack on the side that I couldnt see because the cam gears were in the way. Take it off and check it out.

This is great! I cracked my first valve cover from over torquing it. I have a spare hyundai valve cover I would sell ya ;)

how much on the VC?

I don't drive the car much so I'm not in a big hurry but when i get a VC then i will definitely check everything out to make sure all seems well. unless I can use the right stuff on the inside so that I can't see it. anyone know if i can do that?

everytime i hit the junkyards i go right for the hyundai section and pull every 4g63 cover i can find. you cant imagine how many local eclipse guys i have ran into with mystery timing belt oil leaks only for me to tell them its their valve cover.

I just did this for a 3kgt,came out beautifly..It was an outside between the v part of the cover, then anotherpeice out the gasket..So thats gonna hold up niice.

With the dsm tho, show pics of the damage.

That is so blantantly ghetto it is awesome.

For anyone who searches and comes across this, take the damn valve cover off, clean it up really good with some XyLOL or MEK, let it dry off, and JB Weld the crack from the bottom.... And for gods sake, don't use that freaking much. You just have to fill the crack, not protect it from the impact of a nuclear blast. :|

damn 2.2lbs Aint anything I'm make them one wrench twist right.I hate find dumb shit people covered up

The first time I read it I just skimmed over it, then as I started reading the next post my mind went "wait..wtf did I just read" LOL. Now I find myself checking back at this post once or twice a day to see any new developments that may occur.

Don't give him too much shit guys, I am willing to bet you have accents and slang where you live that sound just as dumb to everyone else..... Especially you Californian, Northern Mid Westerners, and New Englanders. I've been around most of the country and heard how you all speak, and you guys would stick out like a sore thumb where I live. Don't deny it, you guys know if you showed up anywhere in the southwest or deep south, they'd give you just as much crap about how you talk too.

...besides, I speak redneck and understood exactly what he was saying. ROFL

I understand the accents and all, but when you manage to type in the "my sister is also my mom/aunt" accent you have to raise an eye brow. ROFL

I'm thinking it's also the cause of the oil leak behind my timing belt. I haven't looked at it yet, it's been raining and I got wet enough doing the plugs. but the oil runs down in the timing belt area so i bet it's the same problem. So i have a little oil in the plug area, nothing major (looks like you missed the oil hole and it ran down) and then the other that i spoke of. maybe one fix will get them both

If there is ANY oil on your timing belt that may turn out badly for you. The belt will deteriorate and snap. Make sure ya check that out.

Ok, I admit if I had a brain tumor, I would not want my surgeon to sound like he was Bubba Jim Bob of the Ozarks... And I don't see a problem with the other part.... My sister is hot. :p

(I don't have a sister... ;))
