I’m smack in the middle of a drivers front axel CV reboot.

Noticed after the last track outing grease thrown out of the drivers inside cv joint. I waited to address it till now cause now I see gear oil covering gearbox?

Yah, ok maybe that time I went from 2mph - to whatever speed 7800 rpm in first is - might have made an effect - and now I start seeing this.

I drain it to see what it looks like:

couple chunks and some flakes in what looks like good oil otherwise. AMSoil 75w90

The film of oil may have come from over crushed washers. So now, is the time, to do the CV boot.

DP off, going for the half shaft.

I can make some room to pull the axel out of the transmission by unbolting the lower control arm from the chassis, and by turning the wheel full right to extend the steering control arm. To get the axel down and out, I removed the shock fork, supporting the hub assembly on a small floor jack. Removed the axel nut, and then dropped the transfer case.
IMG_8869.jpeg

Zip tied the drive shaft to the heat shield, and set to work on unbolting the 1/2 shaft.
IMG_8870.jpeg

After pushing the hub assembly far enough away to muscle the axel out if the front diff, I deflected the shaft toward the closest open space so the axel can be pulled out of the hub, and down onto the floor.

yuck

Too many of those damn curbs on the racetrack! Wait a sec, I'm checking your video from Jan 16. Looks like your curbs are relatively flat. Am I seeing that right? Are they like slippery but not very curby? Is that how they are?
The curbs at Spring Mountain have a decent profile to run on - but not over. If you slip all the way over the red and white, onto the blue, the backside of the berm will take you out - off camber in the wrong direction, (this can actually be used in one corner to rotate the car)

I did post video from the second trip, but not post processed. We ran Charleston Peak backwards - in the long configuration. It was the second day that config was ever run. (where is that footage...) I didn't sync the data logs for an overlay but you'll see the bad line choice. Front left took a hard downhill hit on the backside of a berm. Blind corner. Bet on your first watch, you won't see how bad the line was until it's too late.

I see, yeah that's a nasty little thing. It would be fun though after getting the hang of it.
Thanks for the vid!
oh yeah, you know that feeling, you get the map dialed in your head after being shown and after doing it yourself. You get to the point where you can name the corners as you go, and then you get to work

"Flow state"
Which you can get into after you've had many many laps. Love it.

Round the block was good - I need to tweak the exhaust system. I pushed it up against the drive line when I tightened flange from the cat to the down pipe, and now it is too close and I can hear it bumping into the drive shaft carrier bearing mounts. - fixed that - ready for MOD 2025

SoCal MOD 2025 was fun! More DSM together than I have seen in 15 years.

I met a lot of real enthusiasts, and picked up a t-shirt. Had to bounce mid day to get back to Oakland. I99 is a good north south corridor from LA to Oakland where you can find E85. (i5 is an E desert) Everyone was moving along well. Rarely below 70mph

And after 800mi the inner CV reboot refresh is holding!
