my buddy bought a dsm right after i did and he is planning on buying a new turbo for his, and he came across a site. He's looking at a evo3 big 16g but it only cost 290 shipped, i looked on the site and i see its not a real mitsubishi turbo, but it does come from JDM. obviously its not a true mitsubishi turbo but will it be good for him? i dont know much about the differences but will it be a good buy....here is the website...

Just because it comes from a website with JDM in the name doesn't mean anything. It's still a knockoff Mitsu turbo, and it will perform about as well as any other knockoff 16g will. Will it be a good buy? Sure, until it fails. Given the average life of a knock-off 16g, that won't be too long. Why doesn't he buy a reputable turbo from a reputable DSM vendor?

well i bought the original but i put my buddy in touch with a guy who works at mitsubishi hes beena family friend for years and he recomended the website...i would think he knows what he is talking about because he has been working as a mechanic for mitsu for about 17 years, but i did not know anything about this so i wanted to ask incase anyone has had one of these turbo's off this site before...i know many things can be made the exact same just without the big name backing but my knowledge is not deep enough yet to know which products will perform well and which wont....

It should be okay i know some people that have ran the ebay 16g and it blow in a month. I would just find i real evo 3 16g and run that.

well i called my buddy and told him and he cant afford this turbo off the websites i told him about and he said he will just go back to a T25 as i told him this would probably be the cheapest....what website would have this turbo for sell, a new t25

You'll pay WAY too much for a new T25.

I have one perfect T25 core here that I had planned on rebuilding and selling on eBay. There's no shaft play at all on this turbo- I was just going to rebuild it as a precaution. What that means is there's no chance of wheel damage caused by too much shaft play...this is a perfect core that will look and perform like a new one when it's rebuilt, and it'll come with the same 30-day warranty I offer all my customers.

If you're really interested, PM me and we'll discuss pricing. I'll guarantee it'll be 1/3 of the price of a new one.

I'm infatuated with the description of that knockoff 16G in the link you posted above:

•The TD05 utilizes a durable center cartdridge. Sure it does, just not the turbo they're selling. The MHI TD05H is one of the most reliable turbos I've ever seen- the chinese turbos don't even make good boat anchors.
•Has an extra large free-floating bushing with a large diameter center shaft. ...because the turbine shafts on the first-issue chinese turbos that were built to MHI spec broke constantly. They had to make the shaft thicker to make it more durable. It's subtle, but this statement is basically telling you that you'll never use an MHI rebuild kit to repair this turbo.
•Has better response than similar sized ball bearing turbos. Perhaps, but it's still not as responsive as the MHI Evo III 16G that it's poorly mimicking. This is due to the heavier compressor wheel and turbine wheel that are constructed out of cheaper materials than the MHI turbo.
•Our turbo offers greater reliability for daily driven vehicles and they also offer great performance. That's quite a bold statement....anyone have proof of one of these lasting more than 10k?
