Is this Holset HX35 too big?

Won the auction for this turbo. HX35 H1C. Didn't realize until after the auction but this thing has a 18cm housing! I don't want something thats too laggy and would like it spool similar to a E16g or even a 20g.

56mm inducer, T3 inlet, and a 3" v-band exhaust flange. I was going to run this with a T3 manifold and a V-band adapter so I can run my DSM downpipe.

This is going on a mostly a stock 7 bolt for now with fuel upgrades and a large FMIC.

Is this thing going to be lag monster. Would the bolt on SS exhaust housing help?

I want to try an find an hx40, with that style compressor housing. I don't want the older c-clip style. As i've heard those leak sometimes. Nice buy, I would just get a bullseye mitsu flange housing, or buy a bullseye T3 .70 a/r 3inch vband outlet housing for it.

the 18cm will definitely be too laggy on a stock 7bolt. Look into the bolt on .55ar housing or the .70ar for more flow potential at the cost of about 400rpm spool. The .55ar is definitely more than adequate for your application though.

For your setup definitely go with a .55 bep bolt on housing due to the lag time, but if you are looking for big numbers out of that turbo you will need the t3 exhaust side.

Do you have a mitsu manifold? If not, you can get a .70ar t3 housing too. But, the .55 bolt-on housing has been proven up to 600+whp...

It could do more with a larger turbine wheel and less with a smaller turbine wheel. The turbine wheel trumps flow; the housing just tweeks flow for spool. One will be very hard-pressed to get 600whp or even 550whp out of the hx35/h1c turbine wheel w/ the bep turbine housing.

rodent, you can't get the evo3 16g like spool speed with a holset turbine housing. You need the bolton housing. . . Well maybe you could with a very expensive divided runner manifold (1-4, 2-3 paired). Or build your own.

If you have the 54mm compressor inducer, then you have the big h1c. This is slightly smaller than the 8 blade hx35. The 8blade hx35 has a 52lb/min compressor map (similar flow to an fp3052/gt30r). If the big h1c flows 4lb/min less than the hx35, then you're looking at 20g 50-trim potential. I love my bolton big h1c. And it flows 3-4 lb/min more at every boost level than my 16g did, and the spool speed is the same. If you have the Wh1c which has a 12cm^2 turbine housing, a wastegate, and MWE porting-- which yours doesn't have based on the pictures provided, then you have the same wheel as the 8blade hx35 and have a turbo as potent as the gt30r. You could still have the 56mm inducer. You have to measure to make sure.

For this turbo, you don't need any more turbine housing than the bep housing. A manifold upgrade is always good but not neccesary to exploit the potential of this turbo. It will flow plenty and yield VERY fast spool with the stock manifold, bolton housing, and a ported evo3 o2 housing or turbular bolton-style o2 housing. This is exactly what I run and I love the response and flow up top. What are your current/future mods to run this turbo?

Appreciate all the info guys! :) I read through all of the Holset threads (lots of reading) and I know about the BEP housing for these turbos. I just didn't want to spend the extra cash but thats the right way to do it. It looks like the Holset exhaust housing may hit the block if you try and run it with just a T3 manifold so the BEP housing is a must unless you did some custom fabbing which I'd rather not. Best part is the turbo was only $300 and its brand new (not rebuilt). Very good turbo's! Sorry if I didn't post this in the Holset threads.

So I bought this turbo from the original poster and want to get the bullseye T3 .70 a/r 3inch vband outlet housing for it. The problem I see is that in all the pics online for this housing it's a 6 bolt pattern, this turbo has a 4 bolt pattern. Do they make the T3 .70 a/r 3inch vband outlet housing with a 4 bolt pattern so that I can just swap it right on? I have searched everywhere and emailed Bullseye twice with no response.
