Is this a bad ecu?

I am having starting problems, about ten cranks to start the engine. It will sputter when i drive, feels like fuel cuts. Lack of power. I took my ECU apart and found this. Could this cause all this problem?

Yes, get the board cleaned up from the acid and get new caps, you should be good

That's definitely bad. IMHO, you would be better off getting your ECU repaired rather than buying a used one. There's no guarantee that the one you buy will be any better off. PM Steve - he can patch it up for you!

I bought a used one, a few days later the same damn thing happened with my other one and the capacitors leaked. I sent one to steve to be repaired, works great now!

Since I can't see the whole board or test anything it's hard to provide any more info than I have on Talk.

I am however reminded that you were looking at a 91 ECU on eBay and this one that's damaged is a 90, what year is your car?

I want wiseman power to just look at a ecu and say its a 90. Years of knowledge ftw.

I'll let you in on a secret. The 90 ECUs have three vertical boards in the center of the ECU where the 91-94 ECUs only have two. That part is just simple observation, now knowing what those three boards do is a different story.

I have a 91, but its like an early 91 with the 90 style head lights.

91 has those headlights too

Both 90 and 91's have popup headlights.

Check your door jam for the build date. Anything starting in june of 1990 is a 91 car.

No, i mean it has the head light bulbs like the 90 does, they are the lamp thing, not just bulbs you have to replace when they go out.
