420A Is there a 95 1/2 model year for the Eagle Talon ESi?

Not sure if this is right place to post this question, but did they have a 95 and 1/2 model year for the Eagle Talon ESi?

The reason I'm asking is I'm having a lot of trouble buying parts for my Talon. everything listed as a match either is out right wrong or has a different connector etc. Then I ran across a site while I was looking at parts and they asked me is me car was built post 6/94, cause there was a difference in things such as ECU and some electrical components.

What you are likely experiencing is the change from model year. 6/94 is likely when they started making the model year 95. You should specify your model year when ordering parts and reference your cars build date when necessary. You may also have differences from NT to turbo although usually it's turbo guys that get sold NT parts accidently but it can happen the other way. There can definately be some build date differences within the model year. You would have to cite specific examples. Dealer software is available for parts and would rule out any changes without having to guess.

You need to decide if you need parts for a 95' or a 99' just use those years to make it easier on the parts people, you either have a first year model of 2g or a last year model of 2g thats how I handle it, with few exceptions doing that will get you what you need.

This is where I think I'm getting confused, or parts people aren't experienced in these cars?

The build date on my eagle is 7/94, which makes it 1995 model year correct?

I've ordered (and returned) 2 coil packs for this car, both times pictures look identical and sales person or computer says this is right part for my car, but both times the plug has been different (smaller) and I can't make the electrical connection. Second part I had trouble with was fuel filter (and FPR). The parts person and his computer said my fuel filter was located by my rear tire and that I should replace FPR while I was there cause it is basically attached to the fuel filter, but the FPR is located on right side of motor on my car, and fuel filter is located on fire wall.

Even my speakers are different. Every where I've looked it says my car has 6x9's in the back, and the grill on the trim is 6x9 sized. So I bought 6x9's and when I pulled the trim to install them I found factory 5 1/2 speakers (they're for sure factory speakers). No big deal, I'd rather have 6x9's anyway and I can modify the plastic holders to fit them, but if I can't even find the right speaker size for my car how am I ever going to find the right parts to keep it mechanically sound?

The 420a did a fuel system change at some point where it became a returnless fuel system, the fuel regulator was removed from the rail and mounted in the rear by the fuel filler neck, that was the only major change to the n/t lineup that I know of. The speaker thing is like that in all of the Dsm's no matter what year they are, so as far as like I said before, if your fuel pressure regulator is in the rear and not on the rail then order parts for a 99'.

95 & 96 had their own evap system, 97 & 98 had their own, and they changed it once again in 99.

Also the 95 & 96 had a different ecu that the 97-99.

Aside from that, it obviously was the cosmetic changes and small tweaks to setup.

Yes but for all intents and purposes what I said is still pretty much good to go by, I doubt he or anyone else at this point will be purchasing any evap parts or factory ecu's, for that matter I doubt that they are even available, for any other hard parts its just "hey this is for a 99' eclipse" or "hey this is for a 95' eclipse", it keeps the parts guys from giving you the wrong parts

One of the issues is that Mitsubishi started production of the 2Gs in 01/94 as opposed to June/July which is typically the starting month of a new model year for them.

This seems to throw off a lot of aftermarket catalogs...not that aftermarket catalogs are very accurate to begin with.

Your best bet is to download CAPS or ASA, find the correct OEM part number for your car, and then cross-reference it with the aftermarket company that you're looking at.

Most will state that part "x" substitutes OEM part # "y".

It won't help in this case other than to check off of the month / year on his VIN plate on the door frame. The VIN for his Talon won't work in Mitsubishi parts software so you will have to look up by build date instead.

The main changes were along the 1994.01.1 - 1995.06.3 / 1995.07.1 - 1995.12.3 / 1996.01.1 - 1996.06.3 time lines for your specific platform.

Check your build month / year on the driver side B pillar door frame, top right corner of VIN plate.
