Ive been reading a lot of threads lately about how everyone thinks its a bad mod, is this true? I'd rather have the link but i think im going to move to the EVO side soon so i figured id buy one and make the car run better than only with the safc so i dont sell someone a car with tuning issues. I have it in front of me now and im kinda skeptical on putting it on now. Someone please tell me some positives about this mod.

I can't say much positive for this mod. I can't wait to get rid of it when dsmlink v3 comes out.

I have it, works fine.

some positives
-You can add/remove fuel.
-you can vent your bov properly.
-its easier to run a CAI.
-the GM MAS is better than the 1G MAS.

If you acompany it with a wideband 02 and datalogger, proper tuning can be done fairly easily. But since you already have a SAFC, I don't think the MAFT will help you much in tuning since the SAFC is better at fine tuning than the MAFT IMO.

While I agree with all of those statements, I was under the impression that the 2g MAS will be more accurate than the GM MAFT, not to mention I've heard of lots of people having tuning issues during weather changes.

Ive never had problems with the weather and i live here in michigan, and im driving it right now. Even in hot weather or cold no problems. I had the 1g mas and it was restrictive compared to the way my turbo spools up.

That is correct, to some extent. The GM MAF is temperamental to weather/humidity changes (or at least mine is). The 2g MAS is typically more accurate, but the reason people should switch over to the GM MAF is because they overflow the stock MAS. From what I've read, this typically happens around 450hp. Now, once you get DSMlink, you can run a 2g MAS a lot higher because of the Fake MAF feature.

I'm with Pat. I have one but I tune with DSMlink.

I used to think that way about mine whenever it rained. Come to find out my CAI was getting some water sucked into it that would actually make it all the way to my GM MAS and screw everything up. needless to say, I don't even run a CAI anymore unless im at the track.

I am actually having issues with mine right now. Ive had it on my car since 03 or 04 and never messed with it (I also have an SAFC II). I recently did some upgrades since my motor shit on me and now im having the issues(also probably to do with the weather change). I upgraded to a JM fab intake manifold, 75mm throttle body and keydiver 2 map chip. Now the car needs to be tunned every day. My mechanic is moving it from the original blow threw position to the turbo inlet pipe. I have a 4" intake pipe on there now but he will have to step it down to liek a 3 or 3 1/2 inch pipe to do this (i hope it doesnt hurt performance?). He said that it will fix the problem but that I will have to recerculate my HKS SSBOV back into the intake :( which is the whole reason I bought the maf T in the first place (but now ive got to much power to run the 2G air flow sensor :( )

Right now he tells me that my car runs/feels like his race car. He said it runs crappy except when your getting on it.

I have the MAFT Gen II and I love it. The turbo spools much quicker. The only problem I have at all is it runs pretty rich until the o2 sensor warms up. But during the Spring/Summer (when I installed it) it worked perfect. Just this cold winter weather makes it take a little while to warm up. I would recommend it.

Good info to know. So have you experienced ANY negative effects running a MAFT?

I say +1 for the maft...I was getting full spool(25psi) on a b16g at like 2100rpms....I loved it...NOTE-I did have cams with the exhaust retarded 2*

What's wrong with the AFC? I had an SAFCII on my 2g for a while and I have no complains with it. Since you have a 2g, it's not like you have the crappy 1g airflow sensor to deal with.

Since you have a 95, check and see if your ECU is an EPROM. If so, you can just get it sockted and get either a chip burner, an emulator, or just buy an already tuned chip - it makes an AFC really easy to fine tune with.

I had the MAFT and it was such a pain in the ass. I ended up getting rid of it and got the MAFT-pro and i love it. Can connect a wideband to it and it can read somewhat like a data logger. :dsm:

I have absolutely NO problems with mine whatsoever! It works perfectly and if you check my other posts, you'll find my dyno sheet with a/f on the bottom. I have no changes with the weather (even right now with our 40* at noon, 1* at midnight thawing/unthawing), not even during huge downpours. I would say that anyone that does have a major running problem or has to compensate greatly for the gm maf has a bad one. Orientation in the piping has a lot to do with it too, you have to have the diverter (that piece in the middle of the circle for the laymans out there) straight up and down or the air hits it funny and the readings don't come out right.

Bottom line, if you get a good gm maf and install it properly, you'll have a setup that outflows nearly everything out there and it'll work extremely well.

Go with 450's, zero out all the dials except the wot, set that one click clockwise.

I had mine installed in the glovebox. As long as you have a least a datalogger, you should be able to tune it pretty good. I got it mostly so I could here the bov and louder spool. It was a great improvement but I found myself adjusting it often. If you have a wideband, you could take more advantage of the controls on the MAFT.

Full spool at 2100rpm.....Ya right! I get full spool (15psi) at 3300rpm with a Evo 3 16g and FP2 cams. Can you prove this statement?
