whats the cheaper way to go

i have a 96 eagle talon esi i was wondering if if would be cheaper to do a rebuild on my 420a or just buy a 4g63 and swap that into it thanks for the advice

If you want a 4g63 its a lot cheaper to sell your car and buy a factory 4g63 powered dsm.

i was just recently thinking about this same thing when i was given an offer on this site about a 4g short block but after i did some research, it would be much cheaper to just rebuild what you have or even sell it and buy a turbo car. from what i've read, if you do the swap, basically the whole engine bay will need to be reversed, so you have to do alot of fab work including making motor mounts and mounts for your ecu and battery and everything else, and then on top of that buy a 4g computer and everything. its just not worth it. if you wanna go turbo, being a 420a owner myself, the easiest way would just be to get a turbo car, but even if you just rebuild what you have and slap a turbo kit on it, i believe you'll still be ahead in time and cash than if you were just to do the swap

No, you cannot swap a 4G63 into your ESi or whatever the hell you have.

The engine configurations are different.

just what everyone else said, dont waste your time with a swap like that, it would be very expensive and time consuming. sometimes the swaps seem like a good idea but in the long run you would be better off to slap a turbo on what you already have or just but a turbo car, but that is just my opinion, good luck with whatever you decide to do

you'll see how it worked out for this guy and what everybody has to say about the 420a's. dude, i'd say just rebuild what you have and turbo it later. we have strong motors in our cars so use what you have. more than likely your not gonna be seeing 10 second runs if you go this route, but at the same time it takes alot to get a 4g63 to that point too. plus, if you just rebuild it then you'll know that your putting the first mile on that engine so there is no question on how it was driven before you got it, so you'll have a reliable and fast car. plus, cheaper insurance rates

As others said, don't bother attempting the swap. The engines mount on opposite sides of the engine bay so everything is different. That being said, rebuilding your 420a and bolting on a turbo may not be your best option either. It all depends on your ultimate goals. If you simply want a decent looking car with a little kick to it then you can easily accomplish that with a 420a build, but if you want to go for something more, like 350hp for example, then you would achieve this much easier and cheaper by just buying a 4g63t car (and awd is really nice to have as well).

I have to agree with the majority after rebuilding the 420a and if you do end up getting a turbo kit, you should have just sold it and got a gsx gst or tsi. They are usually fairly easy to come by but the condition on them is sometimes sketchy (atleast in my area). Also alot easier if you sell and buy one already with the 4g63.

The 420a is good car, but if you after more power and fun sell it and buy a turbo car. It can be done but why? Why invest so much time and effort and still have bastard car? Forget about re-sale.

If you don't want anything crazy maybe you could look into higher compression pistons or maybe a striker or long rod kit. I have no experience with any of them but I'm sure there are several people on here who do and I'm sure it's something over stock. Or do cams and a head port mixed with one of these choices and im sure it'll definately be noticeable over stock and probably alot cheaper than just rebuilding and turbo. It's up to you man it's your car, but I'm trying to give you some suggestions. I hope this helps

ya aftermarket parts are pretty easy to comeby because its the same as a neon/avenger motor i know when i had mine msd made a lot of ignition components for it for cheap! and also a lot of other brands.

Go with a rebuild it cost my brother about 1g all together all Oem stuff. I'd go different stuff especially since your looking to boost it.
