I blew my headgasket in my 92 GSX and decided to get another 92' 6/4bolt DSM and swap all my mods over then part out the Eclipse. The Eclipse needs a tranny re-build, windshield, paint job, shocks, springs, carrier bearing, and now a headgasket all on a 161k mile frame.
I found a 92' Talon TSi awd with 116k on the clock that had a build date of June 92. Did a carfax and everything looked great, and I ran a compression test and some other tests (164 across the board) and bought it. Being a 92' I knew it was a 4 bolt rear, but to my understanding anything built after the 3rd week of April 92' is a 7 bolt. I told the guy that the car is a 7 bolt and he said it was deff a 6 bolt because he just had the timing belt done and the tensioner was a 6 bolt tensioner. Also, the oil pan bumped out like 6 bolts do. Upon further investigation, I read somewhere in vfaq that 7 bolts didn't start till mid June of 92', so there must have been some overlap in engine distribution at the production plant in 1992.
This got me very curious. I entered the Talons VIN (4E3CT64U0NE140671) in CAPS and pulled up the diagram for the flywheel and it showed a 7 bolt.
When I pulled up the flywheel for my Eclipse (4A3CT64U2NE017247) it showed a 6 bolt, which I know to be true because I installed a 6 bolt act 2600 and act flywheel last Spring. So at that point I was almost certain that I bought a 6 bolt transplant, until I compared the timing belt tensioners between the Eclipse and Talon on CAPS and it gave the same part number WTF . So that led me to think that CAPS might have an error in it.
My prob is that I don't want to pull my trans in my Talon only to find that my almost new act2600 and act flywheel from my Eclipse wont fit, and then have to shell out ~600 bucks for a new set, plus have no car for a couple days. So, my question to you guys is besides pulling the tranny, is there any way to find out if I have a 6 bolt or 7 bolt?
