Is My Fuel Pump Going Out On Me?

Did a search and nothing came up. 96 2.0 N/T 5 spd

Well, 2 weeks ago I filled up my gas tank full. When I first started driving my fuel light came on a few times. And it ran a little wierd those few times. Wierd I thought but it went away. Everything seemed normal. It came on towards the end of the tank like usual. Although it did flash on and off a little more then usual.

Well tank number 2. I filled up last night. Same thing, except it isn't going away. The fuel level registers normal as far as I am concerned. The fuel light will come on and I can feel a short fuel cut/loss of power. When I let off the gas pedal the light will go off. Even if I don't let off the pedal the light will go on and off as it pleases. And so far this only seems to do it while driving. Hasn't acted up at idle yet.

So my question is....., Is my fuel pump going out on me? :cry: And is the fuel sender located on the fuel pump?

Ok so I just found out the sender is a seperate unit. But it just feels like when the light flashes the fuel cuts out. Maybe its my creative imagination who knows. I do know one thing, I am not imagining the low fuel light. There is no reason it should be flashing on and off when I have a full tank LOL!

Try replacing just the sender you think?
 
Well depends if you got a OEM old FPR , aftermarket FPR and/or aftermarket fuel rail ..etc...
OEM METHOD:
You need a fuel presure gauge kit+a fiting;
1st. Relieve fuel system pressure.
-remove the cover from the service valve on the fuel rail;
-connect FPR Gauge(part NO. MB995051) to the service valve;
-turn ignition key to ON position;
The fuel pressure should be around 47-50PSI(330-350kPa);
Solutions:
-IF fuel pressure is lower, dirty fuel filter and/or bad FPR(replace it) and/or defective fuel pump;
-IF fuel pressure to high then 99% is the FPR..and very very very small chance of a bent return line;
Anyway get like 4-5 different readings...if the fuel pressure drops after like 1 min then you have leaky injectors or abd fuel pump.
