Is less back pressure good for turbo cars?

Well is it? im thinking it would help spooling but the old owner ran the car with only a downpipe with no cat and said he lost hp..

You want a free-flowing exhaust. Ideally, the shortest, straightest exhaust possible would be best. You do not need or want back pressure. An open down pipe is not a bad way to do it!

The turbo is the back pressure. Some say running open down pipe doesnt make a difference, Ive ever herd of guys running open o2 housing.

All I can say is when I ran open downpipe for 4+ months, then put on my cat back, my butt dyno felt an increase in how early boost came on and over all it just felt faster. Maybe it was just me. I say some more restriction is a good thing. IMO

That's probably because it got quieter. When you're used to a loud car you more-so feel the power instead of hear it when its quieter. Kinda hard to explain. It's in your head. On a turbo car less back pressure means more power no matter what

I ran just my downpipe at last months races. It does feel like the car is slower when drivin normal because it's so loud. But once I got to the track and ran I could feel the difference and it was good. I'm not sure how much it really helped but my previous best was 12.8 and with the added bc272 cams and open downpipe I ran a best of 12.4 last month. Even my friend Ricky was curious if it really makes a diff he has a sick 01 Tacoma and with his exhaust he runs 11.8 without he ran 11.4. We took his off because he said it seemed to help me and wanted to try for himself. Man did he have a big smile on his face after that 11.4 pass, he said it def helped spool time and well no other changes but the exhaust removed and he picked up 4 10th's. I know I'm not running mine at the track anymore. I think if your setup is flowing a good amount of air it will help you out abit, and for drag racing every little bit you can squeeze will help that e.t. go down.
