Well is it? im thinking it would help spooling but the old owner ran the car with only a downpipe with no cat and said he lost hp..

All I can say is when I ran open downpipe for 4+ months, then put on my cat back, my butt dyno felt an increase in how early boost came on and over all it just felt faster. Maybe it was just me. I say some more restriction is a good thing. IMO
I think if your setup is flowing a good amount of air it will help you out abit, and for drag racing every little bit you can squeeze will help that e.t. go down.
