Is it possible... Big 16g to EVOIII 16g conversion or even 18g

Well, by looking at my so called "small" 16g turbo (no shaft play perfect condition) that i got for $220 on ebay I cross referenced the numbers on the compressor cover with your guys' on DSM tuners in some other threads and randomly found out it is actually a big 16g turbo...
SO, if i wanted to convert it to an evo III big 16g, wouldn't i just need the compressor wheel? or would i need to machine the inside of the housing like transfering from a small to a big (irealize you have to get it balanced etc). And what are the differences between a big 16g and an 18g?

There won't be a big difference really to swap to a evo 3 16g from your big 16g.If anything swap internal parts for a hta68 but really I would just keep the big 16g u have and run it.Unless u plan on running more then 20psi you shouldn't really worry about paying the extra money for a evo 3 16g they are all really the same turbo.
 
Yeah, you won't gain much from going Big 16g to Evo3 16g. However, it can be converted to an 18g or "bastard" 20g.

As true as that is too you really will just be pissin out hot air.I would really just stick with the big 16g or sell it if you really want to and get a used evo 3 sence there so dam exspensive new.

The 20g is a bit more efficient than the 16g, even the bastard has a good efficiency range. But it does seem kind of silly to convert a 16g to 18g or 20g if the 16g is in perfect shape.

I don't know how to do it or where a good write up is, I planned on having someone else convert my 16g to 20g since it has more wiggle than that LMFAO group. ROFL

Packing a 20 wheel in a 16g housing hasn't really been all that worth it.I don't want to get into much desuction about it but it's what I have seen personally on the dyno with it.

Yeah, putting the wheel into a 16g housing would be a poor idea, but I was talking about swapping the compressor wheel and housing onto a 16g CHRA and turbine housing.

In the long run yes all these are do able I just not a fan of hybrid turbo's.Don't get me wrong there fun to play with just rather stick to the basics.:thumb:
 
I'd say send a pm to " pj91gsx" as he does all sorts of stuff with putting bigger compressor wheels in turbos.
 
Seems to me this would be a good candidate for an EF1 upgrade:

That's probably the price you'd be looking at for just about any quality "conversion", with machining and balancing. And the power potential would make you forget about wanting an 18g conversion:

I don't know that an 18g conversion would be any cheaper.
