I finally came around to upgrading my turbo. Won't be anything big for now as this is my daily driver. Although, i am setting everything else up ie external gate, MAFT (dsmlink in near future), all the fuel, etc. so when i do finally go big, everything else is all there. Its time to order a front mount and there are LOTS to choose from. But i am also kinda picky. I want to keep my stock fogs, needs to be bar and plate core, short route piping with ability to put MAFT in place, and big enough to eventually keep up with a big turbo. I talked to marty at speed factor as i heard they were about to produce a 2g kit. He told me that it is a bar and plate core(most bigger shops ony use this style), cast alluminum endtanks(better?), and short route 2.5" piping with GM sensor option. It also lets u keep the stock fogs which is a huge plus for me. Here are some pics and let me know what u guys think. I think its pretty decent but would rather have some of you guys opinions. I mean its not out there yet and i have other choices but this thing looks great. Money isnt too much of a problem. And, i really dont know the price of this thing. Call the vendor up to find out. Let me know whats up before i drop a grand or whatever this thing will cost.

I talk to the guys at speed factor almost daily on im. They are a good group of guys there at speed factor. Always helpful and polite. I know quite a few local guys that have bought from them and have never heard a wry word against them. I myself am going to purchase this ic the day it becomes available. I would purchase from them in a heart beat.

It looks very very good. The core isn't the biggest but more than most everybody would ever need. I personally ordering the 2g kit from SBR with a GMMAFT option.

i did take a look at that put i like the speedfactor setup as it is like the sbr setup. The intercooler outlet is facing back thus having the piping go straight up and back to the throttle body as apposed to looping around the front of the car and then back up to the throttle body. No point in short route piping if its not as short as possible. :rocks:

The speedfactor FMIC looks kinda like a Greddy Intercooler, just that its setup for short route. The Endtanks on the SF kit looks a bit small. But I really dont see you having any issues with a SBR kit or the SF kit. Lets just wait and see the price on this Speed factor kit.

i woudnt really compare this thing to a greddy intercooler. I mean, its smarter to have the outlet and inlet on opposite sides from top to bottom and obviously left and right. More air(boost) travels through more area of the core.

i just purchased the 2g buschur racing fmic kit and it is very nice. well designed endtanks, huge bar and plate core, polished piping. give them a call

I hope SF can put up some picks with the core at least on the car. It looks to be a decent size. About the endtanks...isnt it better how the edges are all smooth and rounded as apposed to a flat peices of alluminum welded straight to each other?

Those cast aluminum endtanks will work great. There is an explanation on the benefits of these endtanks on www.DVDTFAB.com. Great website and great fabrication work by a part time fabricator / engineering student. Check it out. :dsm:

unfortunately the dvdt kit is out of my price range although it is more intercooler then i will ever need. Thanks for the info, kinda makes me feel better about the SF kit which is perfect for me. :thumb:

The speed factor one does look nice. Would like to know pricing when you find out. The cast endtanks are definently a plus and the core looks nice size as well. Let us know when you get more info on the intercooler. :thumb:

So i just heard that SF finally tested out their core. At 64psi they saw a 1.1psi pressure drop. Sounds good. What got me sold was the 470degree tested inlet temp coming back out at 97degrees. Thats pretty sweet. What do you guys think?

are you saying that the actual air temps measured are those temperatures, or those are the temperatures on the surface of the core?

Core temps can be measured with an infared camera, or a laser thermometer. Unfortunately, those readings mean jack shit.

Unless you're measuring air temp @ intake, and air temp @ the compressor outlet, your temperatures mean nothing.

Your core will be hotter at the hotside than the air inside (often) and colder than the air on the coldside. The fact of the matter is, for surface temps to be accurate, your intercooler would have to be 100% efficient. ROFL

Water intercoolers are more efficient, but are a long, long way from 100% efficiency. :) :thumb:

RNR's streetcore sounds like exactly what you are looking for. Nice size core that allows you to retain your stock fog lights. The piping is short route and the quality overall is top notch. My good friend runs the RNR street kit on his 1999 GSX and it's cooling his 20G fine, he's running 12 flat right now and drives the car to work everyday.

the thing with rnr is that you will never see your product if you do order it. im still waiting to hear about an exhaust i placed an order for over 6 months ago. you can never get with ryan on the phone. customer service is pretty bad. never get responds on emails. poor experience with them overall. this is just my .02..

eric

i gotta agree with the above post. RNR is one of the shops who i do NOT do business with. I do not feel like waiting 6 months for my order to come in. Way too much bad rep from them.

I must stop by The Speed Factor in person every other week if not every week. They are a really good crew. I have seen the core before and its gorgeous, the welds are real nice from the one I saw and the way the endtanks flow seem very good. Also keeping our stock foglights is a very good idea. I am actually ordering one of their kits and they have 9 orders (without mine) already without even having finished their piping. From the people that have experience with them, it gives them great confidence in their product.

When their first or second shipment comes in, I should have the intercooler and piping and I will post up an installation and review about this intercooler kit.

here are the intercooler pipes for the speedfactor kit. it is coming with an elbow for the hookup to the licp, and there is also a replacement throttle body elbow to go along with the kit. this stuff looks super high quality to me. t bolt clamps. the whole nine. 2.5 inch piping. excellent polishing job.

def A+++++ quality

I Got So Excited I Forgot To Attach The Pic Of The Polished 2.5 Inch Aluminum Piping.

Well this is our 2G FMIC kit for $1000. The kit has short route plumbing and aluminum end tanks. The core measures in at 24" Long x 3 1/2" wide x 11" tall. Here are some pictures of this kit on my car and the kit alone by itself. If you have any other questions about this kit just let me know either by pm or email [email protected]
