Ok, I got the whole head back together, tried to turn the intake cam to test it before I slapped the head back on the car, and it has a ton of resistance! I pulled the cam out, removed the rocker arms, then torqued the cam back down and there was still a good amount of resistance when I tried to turn it. Shouldn't that puppy turn real easy with the rocker arms out? Any easy way to test if its the cam or if its the head? The head JUST got rebuilt so I'm really hoping that's not it :notgood:

Thanks

They are definitely the ones that came with the head. I bought the head rebuilt from a very reputable e-bay seller so I would *ASSUME* the work is good. But yes, the caps are in their right spots and seem to be the right ones.

The only thing is, this whole head was just gone through, is it possible the cam is warped? I'm just really looking for every other possible solution before shipping this head all the way back to the seller for a warranty claim :notgood:

Just to be clear arrows all pointing in the same direction?

I had this same problem when the machine shop put my cam caps back on in the wrong order so I agree with the rest and I would check that first. If they are, do as Defiant said and remove the rockers and see if the cam will turn. If it doesnt, sh*t can it, hone it, or send it back for a refund.

I've been turning it without the rockers out and there's resistance.

My machine shop buddy gave me the best possible idea. I colored in the insides of the bearing caps and the journal seats with black magic marker, retorqued the cam, spun it for a whole rotation, then untorqued the cam and pulled it out, and looked for spots where the marker had rubbed off. I4 and I5 were the 2 giving me problems, each had a spot about .4" long and almost the whole thickness of the cap. I just rubbed them gently with emery cloth, remarked them, reinstalled them, and am repeating the process until the marks wont show up (slow and steady wins the race, better to take off less than i need, rather than take off more than i need). I'm already seeing progress but am forced to abandon my post (demands of the significant other). I'll get backat it later on and let you guys know how it works out tonight :thumb:
