In the market for street/drag tires

What's up all!

I've been looking at tires for quite some time now and it really sucks since there are so many fing options. Here's what I've narrowed my search to. Looking for mostly street tires with occasional drag in the $100/tire range. These are what I'm thinking of

235/45/17
Hankook Ventus v12 evo2 - 320 treadwear Traction AA
Toyo Proxes T1R - 280 treadwear Traction AA

Which would you choose? Open to other suggestions.

$100 each? Not very many options that will grip well at the track...

These are slightly higher priced than what you seek, but they have good reviews through and through. I've got no personal experience with them, but I hear from people that have used them and they say they make for good autox tires, so they might dig ok at the strip.

The three concerns for drag racing tires are treadwear, contact patch and sidewall stiffness. You want a sticky compound, sure, but that won't help you if you can't get any give out of the sidewall itself. Before you buy anything, do some research about how soft the sidewalls of these tires are.

+1 for the Firestone Indy 500's. They are the same tire as the Bridgestone Re-11. I put a set on my car after I completed the auto swap and they hooked good on the street. I was running fd wheels and 225/50/16's. Check out the reviews for them on tire rack also...

The Indy 500 is not at all the same tire as the RE-11, it's the RE003 that the rest of the world got. It's great for a performance daily driver tire, but not in the same league as the RE-11, which was in the heavy-hitter 200TW class for racers.

Snow tires are great because the soft sidewall allows it to wrinkle on launch to grip, like a drag radial or slick. The treadwear can also be sticker (low 300 treadwear ratings), but you give up some contact patch because of the chunky nature of winter tires. I would definitely take some well-picked all-seasons over a high performance tire like the RE-11 for drag racing.

They do have good reviews. I just never cared for the brand since they were all cheap tires back in the day.

I have urethane mounts except for the front roller which has the inserts. My motor is stiff af so not worried about that. I’ve always put down 1.8 sometimes 1.7 60’s consistently with 17” summimotos and 16” eagle ra on my 2g. I went to the track last year (first time in over a decade) 1.9 for the first three then lowered pressure to 20 psi on the forth and last run and happily put down a 1.7 on 17” summimotos (b16g). I know I’ll put down better 60” since I wasn’t full throttle until I got out to about 40” since my driveshaft need rebuild at the time. Leaving part throttle was the only way to not get the driveshaft to shake. I’ve rebuilt it since so we’re good there.

I didn’t know people ran snow tires but makes sense as cheater slicks.

My goal on the current set up is mid 11’s on E and 1.7 60” will get me there.

Fill your rollstops with polyurethane & glue the front/back inserts in, they will be much stiffer. I used large washers, sockets, clamps to keep everything squeezed together while curing.

I run Bridgestone Potenza RE-71r in 235/45/17. The traction and contact patch is amazing but the sidewall is very stiff. Not ideal for our drivetrain but they hook, that's for sure.

I run those same Hankooks. They hook decent. I am going to a bias ply for at the track but On the street they work.
