In search of floor jack.

I took a trip about 100 miles from where I live today to find out that I had a flat tire. I go to fill it up with air and a hole pops out and all the air is gone. My spare was melted or something, part of the sidewall was sticking to a metal piece in the spare tire well, and I had no jack and no lug wrench. Anyways, I bought an extra wheel, pretty cheap, and I'm going to get a tire mounted and I'm just going to keep it in my trunk.

The real question is, I need a jack, preferably hydraulic, to use for the future and that will fit in the back with the wheel. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Check your local auto stores and find one that you like and test fit it in your trunk.

Visit your favorite local junk yard and look through car trunks. Surely there will be a good one there.
If you are looking for more of "shop floor jack" kinda deal, visit a pawn shop and get you a small lightweight jack.
Personally i would rather have a mechanical jack since they are not as heavy as a hydraulic ones and are usuallly smaller.

See I would go with a scissor jack, but they suck trying to get the car off the ground.

Weld a socket to it instead of where the handle goes, square hole out. That way you will be able to use 3/8" (or 1/2") ratchet to work it.

I tend to always use scissor jacks.... Find one in a junkyard from a 90's Chevy full size truck.... They come with a handle that's ratcheting and like 2 3' extensions....

I've used it for years as a temp jack til I could get my jack stands under it....

Never leave a Scissor to hold the entire weight unless whatever it is isn't too heavy.... Ie: replace motor mounts it'll easily hold the weight of the motor while doing 1 mount at a time

i hate scissor jacks. i just use a little 2 ton jack and it lifts the car up just fine. bring some blocks like 2x4's and thats all you will need really to get the car off the ground.

Harbor Freight has an aluminum "racing" jack for like $60. They work great.

Yea, either look at a junk yard and try to find one of the stock 2g jacks. Or try Walmart, Auto stores. You can get one for fairly cheap.
