Hey,

I was just wondering if anyone has imported an Eclipse into Canada? If so, was it worth the effort? was it too much of a hassle?

I know i can save a lot of money strictly in the conversion of average US prices to average CDN prices of a 2G GS. but am i going to get reamed on taxes?

Thanks,

Abstraction

(sorry if this got double posted)

Ok.... If I went to germany and took my 1g with me. If when I went to my next station I had a Targa 1g DSM with the same VIN number on the dash and in the bay I dont think I would have any problem bringing it back.

Oh yeah I get it... sorry about not picking up on that. It should work fine if the VIN's match the etching on the windows and body panels

THe gtr is about 40k in japan. I wounder if its possible to get one there and import it like all other jdm cars. I'd think once you own it, its yours to do what you want with it.

No. Dont even think about it. Seriously.

It wont work, and even if it did it would cost more than if you bought one here.

There is only two ways to do it and both are extremely expensive. There is a way to get it into the country under a "track" only agreement, but I have no clue how that works. There is also a long line of papers you have to fill out to the proverbial T in order to not get heavily fined when it arrives on US soil.

There are a few shipping companys however which will only run you about 5k to get it here. But again you will want to look into the paper work issue first. Otherwise they will fine you and crush the car.

NO! It isnt that easy.. Just because you own doesnt mean you can do whatever you want with it after.. If you plan on driving it on the road JDM cars definately have to be 10 years old to do that..

Actually. I believe what you are aiming at is the whole "Classic Car" law which can ursup the whole Emissions issue. Which last time I checked the CC Law was 25 years or more.

This is only for canada, and the rule is 15 years old (to the build date). In the US it is A LOT more difficult, the 40k car will end up costing you even more money then buying one local to you. Because you need to buy more than one and get it crash tested...... Though this is what was needed for R32-R34.. Since the New GTR is already available in north america not too sure what would be involved. But don't expect it to be very easy.

It is the law for Canada, and is 15 years. dsm03 is from manitoba (canada) so that is probably where his post was coming from.

Ah my bad.

Frankly I would rather import a RHD Silvia. They are sitting in used car lots over there for about $3,000 with some serious mods. But the downside is still that $5,000 ish shipping charge.

At least no one has ever bragged about a JDM Eclipse import..... oh wait.

I really doubt it's worth anything if it's only 3k, straight from japan or not.
And as for a "JDM" eclipse, oh lord, those two words should never be used together in a sentence.

Used cars there are insanely cheap. That 3k car would be equal to a car that is over 10k in north America.
Eg. Supra. You can get an MK4 TT supra for under 10k in japan. Try getting one for that price in north America.
Thats why a lot of canadians were trying to sell their supras (and FD RX7s) last couple years, because they became 15 years old and legal to import... Soo people could have a supra or RX7 for around 12k LANDED into canada... Where the N/A model (LHD) would cost any where from 20-50k!
