1G ignition timing mark?

i cant get my damn ignition timing mark to line up with the 5 degree btdc. i thought maybe i had my motor 180 out but i took off the timing belt and rotated the crankshaft one full turn and still the mark doesnt move. i havent tried taking off the cam angle sensor yet and rotating it but im not sure if that is going to do the trick either. i know its in time cause all the timing marks are lined up and just for reference this is NOT my first timing belt job. i just need some help getting my ignition mark to line up.
 
??? You are talking about when you time your car right?? You might need to adjust your BISS screw, and make sure your ground is good on your timing wire. The car needs to idle at 750 smoothly, then adjust the CAS and it should be able to line up just fine.
 
im not sure the biss screw will help me or not. it just adjusts your idle right? what about the timing wire that i need to ground. where is it located or do you have a pic. i noticed that there is a wire that is coming from the firewall that goes to the back of the intake manifold. is that it. i have done everything right with the timing marks i just cant get the white dash to line up with the btdc tab. if i remember right i have had this problem before but unfortunately i dont remember how i fixed it. let me know what you come with
 
it's supposed to fluctuate around the 5 on the timing cover, not be on the T. If your car is fully warmed up and idleing correctly then just turn the CAS whichever way you need to bring that line back to the 5 mark. Also ... what do you mean you rotated the crank 180 degrees? I'm going to be really suprised if you didn't fubar your motor if you tried turning it over after you did that. Maybe you just had the CAS 180 degrees off and that is your problem? Need more details.
 
There are two places you need to wire to set base timing. First one is by the drivers kick panel. Where you plug in your datalogger. Jump the top left with the bottom right (if I remember correctly, someone jump in I dont have my book with me so this is from memory) and the other is a jump to ground, this one is located along the harness that runs along the top of the back firewall. Careful there are two connectors that arent connected to anything back there. One is for the tach and the other is the ignition ground. The tach is the smaller one with a female end. The right one is larger, closer to the battery (next to the inj resistor) and looks like there should be more pins in it but there is just one. Ground that one anywhere with a good lead. Then adjust base timing and your idle. Hope this helps! (BTW if you have adjustable cam gears you need to do this every time you adjust the intake cam angle FYI)
 
i dont have the motor 180 degrees by the crank. i was told that it was firing on the exhaust stroke ( dont know if that is possible or not). i was told i could take off the timing belt and rotate my crank one full turn back to the timing mark and it would be on the compression stroke. what jump are you talking about in the drivers side kick panel? do you have a pic? i know that you cant set base timing with the datalogger plug in. i unplugged it and still nothing. my ignition timing is off pretty far. the white mark was almost facing the a/c. i know about the jump on the firewall but that is just to make it where the timing mark doesnt jump around right? if i take my cas off and rotate it half a turn to match back up will that fix my problem? thanx for all the info guys.
 
With the car off, ground the timing adjustment plug on the firewall(behind the battery) with a jumper wire. Clip the inductive clamp on the plug wire for #1(closest to cam gears), hook up the +/- on the battery and start the car. Loosen the two bolts on the CAS, just enough to be able to turn it and rotate the CAS to bring the ignition timing back to spec... 5* BTDC.
That is it as far as ignition timing. If your cam time is off then that's another story but it sounds like you have that covered.

So do you know what your crank timing is in reference to the cams or not?
If not, then you need to find that out FIRST.
Easy, remove plugs, rotate crank to TDC on the balancer, check the cam pins. If they are at 12 that is a start. But you need to check the crank timing mark on the oil case too.

Until you find and correct as needed the relation between crank/cam timing your gonna be hitting a brick wall.

I cannot find the CAS alingment off hand right now.
 
Sorry it took so long, but here is a picture of that plug with the pin you need to ground... There is a plug that covers them stock, I had mine, and then drove down the road with it on my catch can..... bye bye.

If you have the everything grounded right to time it and you still can't get the timing mark to line up you are going to want to take all your acc. belts off and check your crank pulley/Harmonic balancer to be sure that the pulley ring hasn't seperated from the crank pulley. It's common on old high miliage motors. I know a few people including myself that this has happened to. Even with the CAS way out of wack I can't see you firing on the exhaust stroke. Only a Cam timing issue would cause that. If your cam timing is way off you might have a lot of other problems to worry about as well... ie.. Bent Valves... If your cam timing is way off do a compresson check... If you still have good compression 125 is service limint and 165 is a fresh motor and no more that 15 PSI difference between all 4 holes is the compression info for a 1G.. That will give you an indication if weather or not you have bent valves as you won't have hardly any compression.
