I have a long screw driver in the top of spark plug hole #1. my cam gears are lined perfectly, and the screwdriver is showing me that the piston is at the top. but shouldn't the notch and gap (red circle) be aligned?! anyone have input?

car was running fine like this all week
thought I jumped timing when It started to run like crap after I put seafoam in it. appears that I havent jumped timing. i have 180 psi compression across the board. don't know where to turn next. I have no engine codes. and my car has always ran fine off of this timing set up.

I advanced the crank one tooth on the timing belt. It turns over like butter with no binding. the notch is slightly above the mark (I swear its like the timing belt is a half tooth off and there is no way to fix it)

I started it up and there is no change. the engine does not care if I am on either tooth on the crank (back or front one) It still stumbles around and misfires.

car is now on craigslist, thanks for the help guys, think I am going to stick with hondas.

That's because you need to reset the belt starting from the cams not the crank, if you don't you will most likely always be off. And boo!! To Hondas LOL DSM FTW!! Watch and learn bro don't give up so easy!

my cams seem to be set perfectly. car was running fine for a week and then the major stumbling occured. for some reason the crank doesn't want to line up. it is either half a tooth ahead or half a tooth back. car runs the same way in either timing belt set up. If I cant sell the car I will just bring it back to mitsubishi for diagnosis again.
