As you have discovered the 1990 cars have many parts including the Coils and PTU that are unique to the year DSM. They can be found on other earlier Mitsubishi cars but I don't have a list.

You can also convert to the more available 1991-1994 parts but you'll need to modify the harness and the new coil pack to make then work on a 1990.

The 91+ PTU has one more pin for the tach signal on the later cars that isn't compatible with the 90 gauge cluster and ECU so you want to keep the tach gate that on the 90 coil bracket and convert the 3 pin 91+ coil wiring to the 4 pin 90 wiring with the tach gate.

How did you identify these parts as bad?

One way to go is Rock Auto, although the parts will usually be after market.
In the case of the transistor I think you can do just great with one from Rock Auto, because I just bought one and it's got "Mitsubishi" and "Made in Japan" and "MD127742" (which is the exact right part number) stamped all over it. And I can show you my own picture of it. And the one I bought is working great.
Here's a link to the Rock Auto listing of it. If you haven't used the drill-down in Rock Auto before you can learn it by looking at how it is shown on this page.
Mitsubishi > 1990 > Eclipse > 2.0L L4 > Ignition > Ignition Control Module (ICM)
and here is the link to this page:

If you pick their little blue button that says "info" you'll see their pics of the item.

Here is my own pic of this part which is the same for turbo and non-turbo 1990. You can see that it is the "Standard Motor Products LX646" which is $192.

Now for the coil, this is an example of how things could get a little confusing in Rock Auto if you don't already know the right answer.
Because for the coil, my preferred "after market" brand would be NGK. But Rock Auto shows 2 completely different coil choices for NGK coils.

Fortunately they are so different you can tell just by looking at it which one is like the one on your car.
I don't know much about the non-turbo 2 liter cars but I think the NGK 48984 is the correct one for your car.
And I just bought one of those for my own car (turbo car) a few weeks ago. And it is beautiful.
Rock doesn't show a very helpful picture for this coil so I'll post my own shot of the one I got.

Here is a link to their listing of the coils for Mitsubish > 1990 > Eclipse > 2.0L L4 > Ignition > Ignition Coil
If the NGK 48984 is wrong for the non-turbo then somebody please give us a holler.
Notice that this coil is only $62 which is surprisingly cheap given the amount of parts on this thing.

I’m trying to figure out why you can get a whole assembly for a 90 from NGK but I had to buy 2 coils separately for a 92 at $70+ a piece from Rockauto 😡.

That does seem weird, and now those coils are $122 each from Rock Auto.
Probably I would try the SMP (Intermotor) complete coil pack from Rock Auto for $130.

MD158956 is I believe the OEM part number for the 1992 complete coil pack? I see that for $205 from Mitsubishi Parts Now but they don't show a picture!

For once the 1990 stuff looks like a better deal!

I just purchased this same coil pack thanks to this post. I’m hoping this fixes my low rpm ignition issue
