Hi from the UK.

Trying to get the ignition to turn on in our Plymouth Laser, key goes in turns very partially but can’t get it to acc to check electrics or remove the whole key barrel. Does anyone have some tips or tricks before I drill out the whole ignition section. Steering lock doesn’t seem to engage at all.

If you're just wanting to check electronics, just unbolt the ignition switch behind the barrel and just turn it with a screwdriver. The steering wheel will lock and you won't be able to drive it, but it'll turn everything on like you turned the key to ACC and ON.

Thanks for the reply the 1g looks slightly different to the 2g, which I’ve taken apart I couldn’t see how it bolted on there’s a small screw but that’s all I could see

That's all that holds it on, if I recall correctly. I remember it being hilariously easy if you could somehow break the steering wheel lock to steal a 1G. The door skin can be pulled open by hand and the doors unlocked by easily reaching down and unlocking them. Lol.

Thanks for advice, got ignition switch of to check electrics, got quite a few non working items but at least I can check now. Going to be a very painstaking restoration
